There are approx 1.5 million Palestinian refugees who were hounded out of Israel and had their homes and land stolen. About 500,000 STILL live in refugee camps more than 50 years later. Israel will not accept their right of return in any peace talks. This item alone will prevent Hamas and the Palestinians accepting peace for ever.

Palestine will get observer status at the UN in the next month. Palestine will charge Israel and their leaders with war crimes and crimes against humanity at the ICC. Iran will get nuclear weapons and the balance of power will change in the ME.

There is NO military solution for Israel, which is a pity as that is all they know. Israel ha mounting internal social issues. This compounded by their increasing spending on the military.

Israel current path is one heading for disaster. They are all in a train with no brakes heading for a cliff.

last war resulted in over 1413 dead (over 1400 in Palestine and 13 in Israel). You cannot expect the same message from the relatives of those killed. Also, what a mother say about her feeling should not be used to make decision about millions of people. Be fair and consider all the issues in your assessment PLEASE.

In my view no outsider can assess the situation. We can help peace ONLY by encouraging the two sides to talk and not taking sides.

It was John Major that really got the peace pocess under way in NI. The community peace process grew on the back of that.

I don't have any good long term views on NI. The joint management agreement with the IR was accepted by the IRA for several reasons. Firstly, the leaders such as Gerry Adams were not getting any younger. Secondly they viewed it as a transition towards a united Ireland. The united Ireland is a myth and when the supporters of the IRA see that, there will be a resurgence of violence. This is beginning to happen now with bigger and bigger bombs being deployed. The peace agreement has been a temporary sticking plaster on a serious wound. It still festers underneath and will erupt at some point. I know people on both sides (I am from Southern Irish Catholic ancestors) and their attitudes have changed little since the current peace. A united Ireland is pretty much impossible and separation has its own problems. The story is the same with all artificially created boundaries such as Korea, India, Cyprus, Ireland, Vietnam. even the factions in Belgium hate each other and it is caused by artificially creating the country about 150 years ago.
