Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

Well now we know where Corbyn stands on freedom of movement after yesterday's clear as mud speech by the loony.

Did all the speech writers and policy advisors leave Labour when he was elected ?

Could be an opening for you Fred , at least we all know your position on any given subject.

Fred1new - 11 Jan 2017 12:48 - 6116 of 12628

Dil,

It is nice to read your postings written as a man with strong convictions.

I try not to dismiss the difficulties with some political policies.

The EU has more to lose from hard Brexit than the UK, Mark Carney says

By Steven Swinford, Deputy Political Editor and
Harry Yorke

12 January 2017 • 7:59am

The EU has more to lose from Brexit than the UK, the Governor of the Bank of England has said as he admitted that Britain's economy will defy his own gloomy forecasts and grow at a faster rate than expected.

Mark Carney conceded that Brexit is no longer the biggest domestic risk to Britain's economy after issuing a series of dire warnings about the consequences of a leave vote in the run up to the EU referendum.

The Bank of England is now “very likely” to improve its economic forecast next month, Mr Carney said as he said he was “surprised” that the economic slowdown that he forecast has not materialised.

He said: "In the run up to the referendum we felt that it was the largest risk [to the economy]. There were a series of things that could have happened that would have had financial stability consequences. Of course having got through the night the day after the scale of the immediate risks around Brexit have gone down."

Isn't that strange now , just like all the other wrong predictions hope he's off after his stint is over .

Dil - 12 Jan 2017 09:24 - 6124 of 12628

All we need now is Cammy and Osbourne to admit they were wrong.

Dil - 12 Jan 2017 09:25 - 6125 of 12628

Has the numbering gone funny on this thread or is it me ?

MaxK - 12 Jan 2017 09:40 - 6126 of 12628

Britain's finance industry drops demands for passporting after Brexit

What are the ramifications of the above?

grannyboy - 12 Jan 2017 10:32 - 6128 of 12628

Yes even the finance industry is finally coming to the conclusion that
LEAVING the EU will not be as bad as ALL the pre-referendum scaremongering,
just like Carney and the rest, who are now seriously backtracking....

ExecLine - 12 Jan 2017 11:30 - 6129 of 12628

I think some European countries will certainly be 'bloody-minded' and will block the UK’s attempts to get any kind of a post-Brexit deal.

The UK needs ALL members to approve Brexit deals but some countries are just going to refuse to ratify a deal, putting Brexit at a standstill. So, IMHO, leaving the EU is just going to become a farce.

2517GEORGE - 12 Jan 2017 12:39 - 6130 of 12628

It would be so much better if the EU and the UK could engineer a Brexit whereby everyone was reasonably content, deals made post Brexit should not be a problem. If this is not the case and the EU do turn 'bloody-minded' then the UK has some hefty ammunition to encourage such.

Fred1new - 12 Jan 2017 12:51 - 6131 of 12628

Perhaps some Europeans think the UK are bloody minded!

jimmy b - 12 Jan 2017 13:00 - 6132 of 12628

Go back to sleep Fred .

grannyboy - 12 Jan 2017 13:08 - 6133 of 12628

The UK should just LEAVE and revert to WTO rules....

MaxK - 12 Jan 2017 13:18 - 6134 of 12628

Once frau Merkel finally admits the game is up..there will be a swift agreement, cos the potential cost to the Fatherland is huge. Far more than it will cost us.

But to see any meaningful progress, Mother Teresa has got to push the button.
