FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

muppets 6200 coming soon!

cynic - 27 Jul 2011 15:44 - 6127 of 21973

dull innit, but if you think a sharp bounce will come, i'm sure you're right for there's no way the idiot politicos will actually hazard US falling into default

halifax - 27 Jul 2011 15:48 - 6128 of 21973

cynic even if that happens it's not the end of the world, life goes on, some think rating agencies are so far up their own arseoles they can't see the "wood from the trees".

cynic - 27 Jul 2011 16:32 - 6129 of 21973

true in principle but in practice i daren't think of the quantum of collapse one would see in world markets, and continuing reverberations for a very long time too

KEAYDIAN - 27 Jul 2011 16:39 - 6130 of 21973

Told you we're all doomed.

halifax - 27 Jul 2011 16:50 - 6131 of 21973

cynic no doubt there would be a "kneejerk" reaction to a downgrading, but what a buying opportunity!

Chris Carson - 27 Jul 2011 19:34 - 6132 of 21973

Halifax - I'm with you. At the moment enjoying the summer and golf season. Scalping 20 points a day on Ftse and not much else, let the muppets trade or attempt to trade this circus. :O)

cynic - 27 Jul 2011 20:08 - 6133 of 21973

where do you play chris?

Chris Carson - 27 Jul 2011 20:18 - 6134 of 21973

cynic - Aberdeen, Kings Links council course, play out of one of three clubs opposite. Medals Sat and Wed, club comps between.

cynic - 27 Jul 2011 21:08 - 6135 of 21973

i go to aberdeen very occasionally to visit some oily clients of ours ..... loved the snow this year and just avoided being stranded!

Chris Carson - 27 Jul 2011 21:50 - 6136 of 21973

Lived up here 10 years now and last winter was the worst I have ever seen for snow.

KEAYDIAN - 27 Jul 2011 21:56 - 6137 of 21973

Doomed

cynic - 28 Jul 2011 13:40 - 6138 of 21973

Initial unemployment claims fall below 400,000 for the first time in more than 3 months, dropping 24,000 to 398,000 in latest week.

will the market just shrug or have at least a quick burst for glory in relief?

halifax - 28 Jul 2011 14:07 - 6139 of 21973

cynic the market is being totally "rabbit in the headlights" because of all the scaremongering journos predicting that the US will go bankrupt next week. Doesn't anybody realise that every second of every day tax revenues are being collected, and as long as that is the case the US remains solvent.

cynic - 28 Jul 2011 14:12 - 6140 of 21973

and why would anyone actually believe that a deal will not be struck - it's the same nonsense every damn year

KEAYDIAN - 28 Jul 2011 14:15 - 6141 of 21973

We're doomed.

cynic - 29 Jul 2011 13:46 - 6142 of 21973

U.S. economy grew at a 1.3% annual rate in the second quarter of 2011. Stock futures fall sharply.
another stinker in prospect

HARRYCAT - 29 Jul 2011 14:12 - 6143 of 21973

Approx -135 at the open.

KEAYDIAN - 29 Jul 2011 14:32 - 6144 of 21973
