How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Nice one woodie

Just watching the highlights of the aussies vs windies from last night - just love watching the genius that is Brian Lara flaying the Aussies all over the park

WOODIE - 25 Nov 2005 13:31 - 6146 of 10502

fundy what do you make of the cricket?

Fundamentalist - 25 Nov 2005 13:37 - 6147 of 10502

Do you mean Aus v WI - if so ill let you know after the highlights as i dont know the final score yet

WOODIE - 25 Nov 2005 13:41 - 6148 of 10502

fundy yes sorry

Fundamentalist - 25 Nov 2005 13:55 - 6149 of 10502

Awesome innings from Lara - all hail the master!!! hes now within touching distance of being the highest run scorer ever in test cricket (been waiting for someone to go past Border for a long while!!!)

At 350-7 theyve done well but unless one of the tail manage to hang around in the morning (unlikely) then theyll struggle to bat 4 sessions on what is a very good batting track. Would be surprised to see Australia struggle to reach 450 so would expect them to have a small lead by close of play on the second day. Based on that Windies are going to have to bat at least 4 sessions in their second innings to give themselves or the draw a chance

that said the Aussies look too short and the draw a bit too long to me

WOODIE - 25 Nov 2005 14:19 - 6150 of 10502

thanks for insight fundy the play might be to lay the aussies then green up

Scripophilist - 25 Nov 2005 14:24 - 6151 of 10502

Steve, I see Langbar has officially gone pop today. Terrible stuff, when will people learn!

WOODIE - 25 Nov 2005 14:29 - 6152 of 10502

scrip does not help when shares had a buy a couple of months ago!

Scripophilist - 25 Nov 2005 14:41 - 6153 of 10502

I think the rampers should hold their head in shame, its disgusting that people post false information and suck more people into these situations, some of the investors just can't afford to lose money.

WOODIE - 25 Nov 2005 14:45 - 6154 of 10502

scrip agree lets hope some of the rampers are still locked in.

Fundamentalist - 25 Nov 2005 15:22 - 6155 of 10502

Scrip

have to be honest i looked very closely at them with a view to buying in but when they issued the rights issue and the proposed to buy RAF with paper when the two came to less than 10m when they supposedly had 350m in the bank it just stank - another one that fell into the category of "if it seems too good to be true then it is!" As soon as it was suspended anyone with half a brain knew the shares were worth zero yet many people still expected them to re-list at 150p per share.

Some very sad tales being posted across the way from naive investors who got sucked in

Scripophilist - 25 Nov 2005 20:45 - 6156 of 10502

"it just stank"

When I read some of the early posts I thought they were a wind up. So bizarre and complicated. I phoned Langbar / Crown / whatever and was not at all convinced. None of it made sense, so I'd rather pass a peice of upside than get lumped with some almightly downside. It's the stuff of fairy tales.

I'll keep an eye on the story but I think I know the basics already, it doesn't take KROLL to work that one out!

Very sad for the niave.

Brian Charles Lara - the highest ever run scorer in test cricket

WOODIE - 26 Nov 2005 11:54 - 6161 of 10502

schiff - 26 Nov 2005 13:17 - 6162 of 10502

Anybody know the story about Royal Katidoki Newbury 1.05?
Opened 11/4f drifted out steadily to 6/1 at the off.
During this time you could get 8.2 on Beftair when it was 9/2 on Ceefax
and 10 close to the off!
I was due to back it but didn't in view of all this - I think it must have fallen/PU or
UR. So I've saved a bit for later on.
