Tadpole Evolves (TAD)

ainsoph - 23 May 2003 13:32

A new thread that may swim in hibernation for a few days or weeks as the process of evolution takes place ......

Imagine a slimmed down debt free company with one division stacked with orders and self financing with cash in the bank.

Then imagine a partner for the other division with pockets so deep that they could fund a rocket to the moon ..... and back

Dreaming of course but Tads can do that to you ..... what a gem or is that a bygone dream as well .....

Endeavors Technology's Streaming Applications Delivery Solution Accelerates
Sales and Increases Revenues During Autodesk's AutoCAD Trialware Program

Published study shows that Magi Application Express, a streaming
applications on-demand delivery mechanism powered by Microsoft technology,
delivers Autodesk more customers, accelerates buying process, eliminates
software piracy, and provides a new business solution for eliminating CD-ROM
delivery overheads

###

Irvine (CA), August 5, 2003 - Endeavors Technology today announces its
streaming software solution deployed for Autodesk's AutoCAD product trial
program has yielded substantial cost savings and sizeable unit sales
increases since the trial's launch eight months ago. The announcement of
results is in conjunction with a case study being released by Microsoft.

Using Endeavors' Magi Application Express to stream a fully-functional,
500MB AutoCAD product to the desktops of prospects and customers, Autodesk
achieved ROI within six months, continues to slash expenses, and reports
increased and accelerated sales.

Of 7,000 streamed downloads under Endeavors' software delivery technology,
48% of users were influenced by the trial site to purchase AutoCAD, 33%
decided to purchase sooner than originally planned, and 7% decided to
purchase more product than anticipated. This translated into a $228,500
sales increase for Autodesk over previous trialware releases using
traditional methods, and substantial additional savings to the company by
eliminating the need to burn and ship evaluation CD-ROMs to potential
customers. Endeavors' patented anti-piracy streaming technique also raised
Autodesk's confidence level that unauthorized duplication of AutoCAD during
the trial period would be virtually impossible.

"No one has seen this kind of performance in CAD trial software," says
Robert Ng, director of business planning and analysis at Autodesk.
"Streaming AutoCAD using the Microsoft-supported Magi Application Express
solution allows users to be up and running in just five to ten minutes.
We're not only saving money - doing something better, faster, cheaper, we're
accelerating and increasing sales. What's not to like about that?"

Magi Application Express streams any Microsoft Windows application or large
data set on demand over the Internet. It works within the application
installation and launching processes recognized by Windows that, when
loaded, appears to the PC as if a full product resides on the machine. In
fact, the full application never completely resides on a user's device at
any time. This technology translates into performance efficiency, and most
importantly, no chance of software piracy.

The process for the 8-month AutoCAD streaming trial ran behind the scenes
through a server system managed for Autodesk by Endeavors Technology.
Employing a simple 6-step process, users first registered with Autodesk for
the streaming trial, Autodesk then approved registration and informed the
Magi Application Express servers accordingly, and an ID and password to the
trial site was emailed by the Endeavors server to the user. Users then
logged onto the streaming trialware site, Endeavors servers verified the
user's PC had the resources to install and run streaming trialware, then
streamed AutoCAD application components to the user's PC. As the
application was being used, additional components were instantly streamed on
demand and completely transparent to the user.

Endeavors' extensive use of Microsoft technologies, helped put Endeavors in
a leading position with Autodesk's search for a new and more effective
mechanism for streaming trialware to potential customers.

"We continue to be impressed with the innovations that are produced when
vendors on the Windows platform work together, " said Mark Young, GM of
Microsoft's Partner Group. "Enabling companies like Endeavors and Autodesk
to drive solutions into the market faster is a key advantage of embracing
the Microsoft Partner ecosystem."

Is secure, streaming apps the beginning of the end of software piracy?

Magi Application Express gives ISVs a new, more efficient way to deliver
software to intended markets. It lowers the costs of trialware delivery,
provides full-product usage for better-informed sales and marketing
programs, and eliminates unauthorized software duplication.

Magi Application Express is paving a new roadmap for ISV's to slash expenses
and end the traditional practice of duplicating and mailing trial CD-ROM's
to potential buyers. In the case of Autodesk's reach to thousands of
customers and prospects, each CD-ROM was costing the company up to $10 per
unit. By eliminating physical media, the savings proved substantial and
immediate.

Magi Application Express could also be the killer solution for ISV's to
protect their assets and stop software piracy. According to the Business
Software Alliance, piracy cost the industry $13 billion in lost sales in
2002.

Magi Application Express enhances security without compromising quality.
Traditionally, to prevent piracy in software trials, vendors provide a
stripped-down version of their application for download and evaluation, or
mail a CD-ROM that contains a time-lapsed disabling function. The AutoCAD
trialware program delivered a fully functional version because Endeavor's
solution uses a proprietary identification method that queries machine IDs
for log-in instead of user passwords after trial initiation. Autodesk could
therefore limit the number of times that trial software could be used on
each machine. And Autodesk-sponsored "hacker-challenges" failed to produce
one user who could steal the code.

Endeavors' solution improves lead generation and management. When mailing
software trialware on CD-ROMs, Autodesk sales representatives have a name
and address, which may or may not be correct. Mailings could take weeks to
arrive, and may then get hidden under a pile of blueprints. Worse,
installation problems may have soured the potential customer's opinion of
the software. That leads to mediocre sales leads. With Magi Application
Express, Autodesk can track trial site users' activity, trial initiation and
completion periods, and length of sessions. Armed with that information,
sales representatives knew when the potential customer could be ready to
make a purchasing decision.

Resulting from the success of the AutoCAD trialware program, Autodesk is now
looking to many other avenues using Magi Application Express to make even
bigger contributions to the company's bottom line. For example, AutoCAD
supports 22 languages and Autodesk hopes to eventually open trial sites for
potential and existing customers around the globe. It is also exploring
opportunities to launch streaming trials for other products.

Greg Bolcer, Endeavors Technology's CTO comments: "Cost, scalability and
manageability are the three hottest items in IT. With Microsoft technologies
incorporated into our Magi Applications Express solution, our customers have
confidence they're working with a solution that scales, is easy to manage,
and performs as needed."

so dollie
when do we hit 2p? ill take your answer to the nearest decade. ( dont feel guilty, the nuns were to blame )

MightyMicro - 06 Aug 2003 01:15 - 620 of 729

The problem is that this technology does not deliver anything that we haven't been doing for about seven years in the software industry.

We have been delivering time and machine locked fully functional software over the Internet for trial for years. This stuff is not new, it's not novel. It's simply another way.

The problem is that it is almost too clever for anybody to understand its advantages over simpler mechanisms which have existed for years. Yes it's cute, but no it won't make it, IMHO.

Another thing: Microsoft doesn't have partners: it has clients. If you don't understand that, you won't survive in the software business.

Thanks tris- impressive, but was rather hoping for a contract win, after all that's what puts s to the bottom line and Tad could do with some of that!
Still, pricewise we're heading the right way- but I do get the feeling we'll need something tangible soon to sustain it.

Down a Tad this morning. Is the recent buying frenzy over?

I suspect one or two boastful ones will be crying if it goes south again at a rate of knots.

Sequestor - 11 Aug 2003 10:13 - 626 of 729

Snap,
it`ll sink fairly quickly- huge article in the Sundays about the need for dividends- as we all knew anyway-TAD will have to produce at least an inkling of when they intend to pay one , or they are dead.
The US has been by tradition dividend averse for many years, they are now clammouring for divis.- where they lead we follow.
Unless a company is paying a dividend it is absolutely worthless, the price is merely a reflection of future earnings- something the mad throng would be well advised to consider
I`ll take a punt at 9p
