THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Ask Al Gore he's made a fortune out of Global warming .

TANKER do you have a link for that ? i'd like to read it .

Tanker

Here is a web site you will like

http://www.weatheraction.com/

It is run by Jeremy Corbyn's brother.

"WeatherAction is involved in the Global Warming /Climate Change debate where we point out that the world is now cooling not warming and there is no observational evidence in the thousands and millions of years of data that changes in CO2 have any effect on weather or climate. There are no scientists in the world who can produce such observational data. There is only effect the other way, namely that ocean temperatures control average CO2 levels."

"The onset of the Mini-Ice-Age contiuing to 2035 is ineviatble - and no amount of data-fraud by the UN and camp-followers in academia, baseless propaganda by BBC and AlJazeera, inane green religious piety by politicians or anti-science diktats - echoing the terror the Catholic Church and Inquisition meted-out to Galileo and other 'heretics' by the Pope; can stop it." he said

"The Pope's Encyclical pronouncements on #ClimateChange are the work of The Devil and - like the Papal Inquisition against #Galileo in 1633 - place baseless and deluded belief and Lies (eg from UN Climate Committee the IPCC) above observed scientific fact.
"We challenge the Pope (or his agents) to public debate on the science, and we challenge all Man-made ClimateChange believers to call on the Pope to debate the science or recant their regression to the anti-science days of the 1633 inquisition against Galileo." said Piers

'Global warming the greatest scam in history' claims founder of Weather Channel

THE debate about climate change is finished - because it has been categorically proved NOT to exist, one of the world's best known climate change sceptic has claimed.

I took a guess, that it was le Manoir and had a look at the site early this morning.

Has Raymond now sold out his interest in it to Belmond, the travel company? I think he might well have done so and has been influenced by his relationship with Sarah Wellingham.

I would read into this some quite largish re-investments into the 'le Manoir' property are now required.

Raymond is ambitious and highly motivated and perhaps now wants to, say travel or maybe diversify or grow something else?

Anyhow, that said, come on Cynic, tell us what you ate and what you thought about the experience. Is it is good as it looks?

Haystack - 24 Jul 2015 11:06 - 61662 of 81564

Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons – one of the UK’s best known hotels – is to be renamed as the Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons under a re-branding exercise by its owner, Orient-Express Hotels.

A majority stake in Le Manoir – established by Raymond Blanc in 1984 - was acquired by Orient-Express in 2002 from Richard Branson’s Virgin Hotels for £27.5m.
Blanc is a vice-president of Orient-Express Hotels.

On the subject of re-cycling.

I think this is one big 'con'. It's just a set of 'thought up rules/guidelines' to keep EU beaurocrats in jobs.

Imagine how much hot water and detergent is wasted just washing up empty plastic containers?

If you want to throw away, say some voluminous plastic boxes of previous high quality and which now look shabby, the council won't take them because they don't have a category.

We are NOT going to be conned into keeping a 'slop bucket' on the kitchen worktop.

For ages and ages, our collection vehicles were renowned for not having separate compartments. Residents would do the separating and the collection guys would just then just junk it all together into the back of the vehicle.

Wheelie bins are a scurge on the urban and rural landscape, IMHO.

And why don't housing developers take them into consideration and provide a neat storage facility or 'out of site' bay for them, that's somehow attached to the house? They just seem to ignore this aspect of things.

Some of my stupid neighbours put all their bins and boxes out as early as 3pm on the day before collection, thereby blighting the area.

GGRRRRR!!

I admit to a certain amount of re-cycling but I don't go potty with it, I'll tell you.

And what about the volume of product packaging we are made to have to put up with and endure?

Just so retailers, particularly supermarkets, can neatly put the package up onto the display on the walls and cabinetry in their stores.

Some of this polcarb' cardboard-backed packaging needs a bloody tin opener to get it open. My scissors aren't strong enough to do it.

And if you read the small print on it carefully, lots of packaging IS NOT RECYCLEABLE! There are no laws, that make this an absolute necessity!

What the hell are you supposed to do with styrofoam packaging pellets and bubble wrap?

ExecLine - 24 Jul 2015 11:27 - 61665 of 81564

Thanks for the info' on le Manoir, Hays. It seems he sold out more than a decade ago.

Hmmm? Raymond is a clever guy and obviously with great advisors.

Just imagine creating something like le Manoir, and then the best thing happens to be, that you should then sell it on rather than keep it? Strange.

Haystack - 24 Jul 2015 11:31 - 61666 of 81564

He is clearly iinvolved still. He probably did it to generate funds to develop the business.

cynic - 24 Jul 2015 11:37 - 61667 of 81564

since michel roux retired from the waterside, it has improved immeasurably ..... above all, it is no longer "starchy french" but rather more relaxed as are the staff, and that makes all the difference, all under the watchful eye of diego masciaga, who has been restaurant manager for ever and and a day, and is the ultimate professional and a delight

cynic - 24 Jul 2015 11:38 - 61668 of 81564

le manoir
it really is stunning in all respects, and despite the cost, i would be very surprised indeed if it actually makes money

MaxK - 24 Jul 2015 11:45 - 61669 of 81564

EL

The hard plastic packaging is an anti theft device.

Stops (or at least makes it difficult) people nicking parts out of the complete item.

TANKER - 24 Jul 2015 11:55 - 61670 of 81564

le manoir its ok if you have a good meal before hand or you leave be hungry going home

cynic - 24 Jul 2015 12:25 - 61671 of 81564

what absolute rubbish!
we had the 5-course tasting menu, and it was more than enough, and neither of us are what you might call reticent eaters
actually, we could also have added a cheese course (absolutely unneeded) from what looked like a very well-balanced and well-kept selection

hilary - 24 Jul 2015 12:55 - 61672 of 81564

Jimbo,

Yes, Florida. We only stayed there a couple of nights as we were traveling down the Gulf coast a few years ago, and weren't overly impressed from what I can remember.

MaxK - 24 Jul 2015 12:59 - 61673 of 81564

A man boarded an aircraft at Heathrow Airport for New York , and taking his seat as he settled in, he noticed a very beautiful woman boarding the plane.

He realised she was heading straight toward his seat and bingo - she took the seat right beside him.

"Hello", he blurted out, "Business trip or vacation?"

She turned, smiled enchantingly and said, "Business. I'm going to the annual nymphomaniac convention in the United States ."

He swallowed hard. Here was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen sitting next to him, and she was going to a meeting for nymphomaniacs!

Struggling to maintain his composure, he calmly asked, "What's your business role at this convention?"

"Lecturer," she responded,” I use my experience to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality."

"Really", he smiled, "what myths are those?"

"Well," she explained, "one popular myth is that African-American men are the most well endowed when, in fact, it's the Native American Indian who is most likely to possess that trait.

Another popular myth is that French men are the best lovers, when actually it is the men of Greek descent.

We have also found that the best potential lovers in all categories are the Irish."

Suddenly the woman became uncomfortable and blushed. "I'm sorry," she said. "I really shouldn't be discussing this with you; I don't even know your name!"

"Tonto," the man said. "Tonto Papadopoulos, but my friends call me Paddy."

hilary ,Naples is a lovely town if you spent time there , the Gulf coast the best ,i am not keen on the Miami side .

hilary - 24 Jul 2015 15:02 - 61676 of 81564

Jimbo,

Don't get me wrong, I love the Gulf coast including Sanibel Island - it was just the place we stayed at in Sanibel that I wasn't so struck with.

We have friends in Clearwater, so we stayed with them for a couple of days then headed down the Gulf coast as far as Naples, cut across to Miami, and then down to the keys where we chartered a yacht for a few days. We honeymooned in Key West, so it was good to go back down memory lane.

I know what you mean about the Atlantic coast though. I spent a Christmas and new year in Fort Lauderdale and I was a bit taken aback by it.
