A majority stake in Le Manoir – established by Raymond Blanc in 1984 - was acquired by Orient-Express in 2002 from Richard Branson’s Virgin Hotels for £27.5m.
Blanc is a vice-president of Orient-Express Hotels.

On the subject of re-cycling.

I think this is one big 'con'. It's just a set of 'thought up rules/guidelines' to keep EU beaurocrats in jobs.

Imagine how much hot water and detergent is wasted just washing up empty plastic containers?

If you want to throw away, say some voluminous plastic boxes of previous high quality and which now look shabby, the council won't take them because they don't have a category.

We are NOT going to be conned into keeping a 'slop bucket' on the kitchen worktop.

For ages and ages, our collection vehicles were renowned for not having separate compartments. Residents would do the separating and the collection guys would just then just junk it all together into the back of the vehicle.

Wheelie bins are a scurge on the urban and rural landscape, IMHO.

And why don't housing developers take them into consideration and provide a neat storage facility or 'out of site' bay for them, that's somehow attached to the house? They just seem to ignore this aspect of things.

Some of my stupid neighbours put all their bins and boxes out as early as 3pm on the day before collection, thereby blighting the area.

I admit to a certain amount of re-cycling but I don't go potty with it, I'll tell you.

And what about the volume of product packaging we are made to have to put up with and endure?

Just so retailers, particularly supermarkets, can neatly put the package up onto the display on the walls and cabinetry in their stores.

Some of this polcarb' cardboard-backed packaging needs a bloody tin opener to get it open. My scissors aren't strong enough to do it.

And if you read the small print on it carefully, lots of packaging IS NOT RECYCLEABLE! There are no laws, that make this an absolute necessity!

What the hell are you supposed to do with styrofoam packaging pellets and bubble wrap?

Just imagine creating something like le Manoir, and then the best thing happens to be, that you should then sell it on rather than keep it? Strange.

He is clearly iinvolved still. He probably did it to generate funds to develop the business.

since michel roux retired from the waterside, it has improved immeasurably ..... above all, it is no longer "starchy french" but rather more relaxed as are the staff, and that makes all the difference, all under the watchful eye of diego masciaga, who has been restaurant manager for ever and and a day, and is the ultimate professional and a delight

The hard plastic packaging is an anti theft device.

Stops (or at least makes it difficult) people nicking parts out of the complete item.

we had the 5-course tasting menu, and it was more than enough, and neither of us are what you might call reticent eaters
actually, we could also have added a cheese course (absolutely unneeded) from what looked like a very well-balanced and well-kept selection

Yes, Florida. We only stayed there a couple of nights as we were traveling down the Gulf coast a few years ago, and weren't overly impressed from what I can remember.

A man boarded an aircraft at Heathrow Airport for New York , and taking his seat as he settled in, he noticed a very beautiful woman boarding the plane.

hilary ,Naples is a lovely town if you spent time there , the Gulf coast the best ,i am not keen on the Miami side .

Don't get me wrong, I love the Gulf coast including Sanibel Island - it was just the place we stayed at in Sanibel that I wasn't so struck with.

We have friends in Clearwater, so we stayed with them for a couple of days then headed down the Gulf coast as far as Naples, cut across to Miami, and then down to the keys where we chartered a yacht for a few days. We honeymooned in Key West, so it was good to go back down memory lane.

I know what you mean about the Atlantic coast though. I spent a Christmas and new year in Fort Lauderdale and I was a bit taken aback by it.
