THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Whatever happens, Labour are heading for the wilderness.

for the last few years, say around just half a decade, we've been so used to looking at and listening to LOTS of well known Labour party senior politicians on our TVs.

Now they've nearly ALL gone.

I looked at the current list of Shadow Cabinet members. Of 'popular' note are:

Harriet Harman, Yvette Cooper, Andy Burnham, Chuka Umunna, Caroline Flint, Hilary Benn and Chris Bryant. The rest are quite new 'names'.

When you look at who has disappeared from the Labour scene, the list of big 'Names' is truly massive.

i think they are in the wilderness already.

MaxK - 27 Jul 2015 21:12 - 61708 of 81564

I think Nu old labour have been in the wilderness since they chucked Phony out, there was no one to take up the challenge really...not that it's saying anything good about the tory crew, Hague was the last genuine brain they had.

Lord Sewel resigns as peer in House of Lords: live

Disgraced Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords quits after alleged drug-taking at sex party with prostitutes. Latest developments

The following is getting to be too much of 'a joke' too:

“The set-up we have for the House of Lords is unsustainable – it’s too big, costs too much and its arcane (Hmmm? Shouldn't this be cocaine?) rules leave the public in disbelief.”

The second chamber is already the largest legislative assembly in the world outside of China and costs taxpayers £100million a year to run.

More than 100 new peers have been created in the last five years, taking the total number to 783, including 26 bishops.

And David Cameron is poised to add at least another 50 peers in his post-election honours list.

In addition to the day-to-day running costs, taxpayers are forking out more than £60,000 a week so wealthy peers can feast on lavish three-course meals.

Restaurants, cafes and bars catering for the 783 Lords, bishops and baronesses receive £1.3million a year from the public purse, official figures show.

Just two peers were under the age of 40, according to figures out last year – but 29 members have turned 90.

And only 25% of the 783 peers are women.

Lord Sewel is reported to have invited the two prostitutes to have dinner with him in the peers’ dining room last year.

The boss of scandal-hit FIFA deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his stewardship of world football, Vladimir Putin has said.

The Russian president was speaking in an interview on Swiss TV, days after he warmly welcomed Sepp Blatter in St Petersburg for the 2018 World Cup draw.

Mr Putin said: "We all know the situation developing around Mr Blatter right now. I don't want to go into details but I don't believe a word about him being involved in corruption personally.

"I think people like Mr Blatter or the heads of big international sporting federations, or the Olympic Games, deserve special recognition. If there is anyone who deserves the Nobel Prize, it's those people."

Fred1new - 28 Jul 2015 14:11 - 61721 of 81564

Birds of a feather and corruption?
