THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Here's a VERY funny cartoon from today's Telegraph:

Lord Sewel resigns as peer in House of Lords: live

Disgraced Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords quits after alleged drug-taking at sex party with prostitutes. Latest developments

The following is getting to be too much of 'a joke' too:

“The set-up we have for the House of Lords is unsustainable – it’s too big, costs too much and its arcane (Hmmm? Shouldn't this be cocaine?) rules leave the public in disbelief.”

The second chamber is already the largest legislative assembly in the world outside of China and costs taxpayers £100million a year to run.

More than 100 new peers have been created in the last five years, taking the total number to 783, including 26 bishops.

And David Cameron is poised to add at least another 50 peers in his post-election honours list.

In addition to the day-to-day running costs, taxpayers are forking out more than £60,000 a week so wealthy peers can feast on lavish three-course meals.

Restaurants, cafes and bars catering for the 783 Lords, bishops and baronesses receive £1.3million a year from the public purse, official figures show.

Just two peers were under the age of 40, according to figures out last year – but 29 members have turned 90.

And only 25% of the 783 peers are women.

Lord Sewel is reported to have invited the two prostitutes to have dinner with him in the peers’ dining room last year.

I doubt that some MPs and Lords and Ladies know what their partners' real occupations are!

I perchanced upon the following interesting YouTube clip earlier this morning. It's dated March 2015 and shows Richard Dawkins tearing down the Pope and the present and historic Catholic hierarchy:

The boss of scandal-hit FIFA deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his stewardship of world football, Vladimir Putin has said.

The Russian president was speaking in an interview on Swiss TV, days after he warmly welcomed Sepp Blatter in St Petersburg for the 2018 World Cup draw.

Mr Putin said: "We all know the situation developing around Mr Blatter right now. I don't want to go into details but I don't believe a word about him being involved in corruption personally.

"I think people like Mr Blatter or the heads of big international sporting federations, or the Olympic Games, deserve special recognition. If there is anyone who deserves the Nobel Prize, it's those people."

After years of being told, and telling others, that saturated fat clogs your arteries and makes you fat, there is now mounting evidence that eating some saturated fats may actually help you lose weight and be good for the heart, writes Michael Mosley.

Police chief warns that officers may no longer respond to burglaries

Chief Constable Sara Thornton, head of the new National Police Chiefs' Council, says officers' priorities are changing in response to budget cuts and the changing face of crime

This has been the case for years.

MaxK - 28 Jul 2015 14:57 - 61726 of 81564

No, they at least used to take a look.

Now they are saying they are not even going to attempt to catch burglars.

Good news for house breakers.

cynic - 28 Jul 2015 15:17 - 61727 of 81564

hays is right and even when they know the culprit or who is running that gang, the police do not want to do much or anything about it ......
knowledge is one thing, but legal proof can be something very different

Why did they not mention the best oil of the lot , cold pressed virgin Coconut oil that can withstand more heat before turning toxic and is a MCT oil

cynic - 28 Jul 2015 17:30 - 61729 of 81564

skimmed through that and it seems not to mention that both butter and olive oil burn at low temperature
rapeseed works well .... as for coconut, i'ld have thought it would have a pretty distinctive and not very pleasant flavour, unless that is processed out of it

ExecLine - 28 Jul 2015 18:47 - 61730 of 81564

Alders

I don't know. I didn't think much to the reported comments either.

We use Rape Seed Oil for cooking as it's supposed to be able to stand a higher temperature. Nothing about it at all. Don't they know that cooking with Olive Oil is old hat anyway?

Apparently not. Now both you and I know this but they don't. Weird or wot?

cynic - 28 Jul 2015 21:18 - 61731 of 81564

depends what i'm cooking as to what medium i use
sometimes butter or olive oil or a mix is imperative, or conversely a high temp oil
