How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?
Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

20m matched on the cricket! I must admit I know too little about this market to make any money on it. Just keeping an eye on it. Nipped in for a few quid but not intending anything else. Just wanted to get a feel for it.

Weird day on the horses. Loads of steamers and drifters. I guess the bad weather caused that a lot? A boon if you were on the right side a mare if not!! Hope you cut your losses and let your profits run!
Mid afternoon I was up 15p for the day. I am pleased to say my performance improved as the afternoon wore on.

Mainly at Wolverhampton it has to be said Harlosh. Just as you observed the other week.

Had some friends round today Scrip so didn't get to the screen until after 3.30. I was on as soon as they had gone but the odds were jumping about like crazy even at Plumpton I think. I decided to switch off to prevent myself from getting on the wrong side of some of those moves.
Are you on the football tonight?

No, No real opinion on it and a difficult one to call even during the match will be sitting it out working on some data.

Don't forget the Austrialian open. Was on the Henman match this morning and good old Tim came up with the goods. Two or three different strategies can be used on the Aussie open.

I don't fancy the ManU game tonight as the odds are too skinny and don't allow any room. I will watch/listen to it and see if there is any interest from there. The strategy tonight may be as basic as laying a correct score. Much depends on the team they put out.
The Real Madrid game looks much more interesting.

Incidentally the Burnley vs Pool match has lead me to do some more research. Will be spending a week or so having a nose around a couple of new areas. Will email prior course attendees if it leads to anything interesting.

Chartist2004 - Just re-read your post and think I mis-interpreted the question. I'd love to give you a clue as to how I did it but I can not claim skill or foresight on this one. I was only looking for 50 and came out with 500!!

Looks like with their line up and how they started ManU are going to kick arse tonight.

Scrip, would you mind posting some tips for suggested pre course preparation. I have seen the following posted above, do you have any others?
Understand back and lay
Get familiar with Betfair

I think those two are the best. Get your hands really mucky, get used to backing and laying. Make a few mistakes, watch a few markets and just get used to the concept. That will make it much easier to come to terms with what I will show on the 23rd.
I will cover football and horses quite a bit as that is where a lot of the money is so have a good look at those markets even if you don't understand the underlying event. Knowledge of the sport is not an essential criteria.

one other thing to do would be to look at one specific event, have a look at each of the outcomes in detail. ie - take a horserace for example - look at each horse - how much has been traded and at what prices, look at the price/volume chart. also for a football match, it would be worth watching one game (preferably one with goals) and as the game unfolds watch the effect it has on the prices.
This will give you a deeper understanding of the functioning of betfair and will lead into scrips theories
scrip - hope im not giving too much away!!!!
