'The problem with Europe is Europe,' warns Italian finance minister Padoan

By Szu Ping Chan, in Davos
18 January 2017 • 11:56am

Europe has become a "problem" that has led to rising populism and disaffection across the entire bloc, Italy's finance minister has warned.

Pier Carlo Padoan said European institutions were no longer viewed as the solution to the plight facing the eurozone and wider European Union.

"The problem with Europe, is Europe," he told an audience at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

He described the backlash against the establishment via June's Brexit vote and rejection of constitutional reforms in Italy as a "sign of crisis".

"In many, if not all, European countries there is a tendency to say our problems are generated in Brussels or Frankfurt.

"Europe used to be the solution to many of the problems of the laggards of European integration. Now this is being turned around completely."

Freda

re - cunning plan

I would say ....... you could be looking at the mirror and see " Baldrick "

That is going to be your new - nickname -

" Baldrick "

Your Master had not ... ever any plans

Theresa May at PMQs to Jeremy Corbin

'It's called leadership, he should try it'
"I have a plan, he does not have a clue."
it was coming

VICTIM - 19 Jan 2017 07:52 - 6214 of 12628

With May now stating that the EU deal will be put to votes by MPs and the loafers , does this mean that the Supreme Court decision is now sort of meaningless . Sure someone knows .

iturama - 19 Jan 2017 08:08 - 6215 of 12628

They are different subjects. The court case is about triggering article 50. It looks likely that both will go to a vote.

VICTIM - 19 Jan 2017 08:15 - 6216 of 12628

Sorry haven't been keeping up , if article 50 would need a vote how can she be so sure we will be leaving .

Fred1new - 19 Jan 2017 08:28 - 6217 of 12628

She isn't.

Like Cameron will remain as leader of the cons and party leader after the result of the referendum.

(Mind I suppose he did for a few weeks.)

grannyboy - 19 Jan 2017 08:42 - 6218 of 12628

If there is a need for a vote then the MP's will vote to trigger article50,
they will pass it to try and save their sorry little arses.

Supreme court to report their decision next Tuesday..

And as to that incorrect statement from fred...(Mind I suppose he did for a
few weeks).

Cameron resigned on the 24th June!!!

iturama - 19 Jan 2017 08:51 - 6219 of 12628

I very much doubt that even that lot, the Scots and Dim Tim apart, will vote against article 50 being triggered. She has to wait on the court decision before deciding on whether a bill is in fact required and the wording of the bill. If required, the current expectation is that it will be tabled in mid February.

Freda (Baldrick LOL! love it mentor) will never let facts interfere in his fantasy gin soaked bed pan world. How much are you paying your private nurses? nowhere near enough would be my bet. :0)

The EU governments are going at lengths to try to prove to everybody how much better it is to be in rather than out, .....they must be worried that they are not going to be able to achieve this, which could jeopardize supposedly the single market.....in fact they need Britain more than we need them.....they will be thinking : how can we avoid the situation where in a few months/years time some countries across the water will be looking at each other thinking about their own euro--exit....
