i was very interested to hear on the wireless an analysis yesterday of the immigration figures

far and away the majority of the influx are courtesy of the eu which allows member citizens automatic right of entry ...... of these immigrants, a very high % were from the dreaded bulgaria and romania and the like, for whom uk is like the land of milk and honey

uk also remains very weak at chucking out students once they have finished their courses, though there is also a very good argument that says we should be trying to employ these graduates - always assuming they have decent degrees from decent unis

i'm unsure where it comes from, but it seems that at long long last, a great many school leavers and indeed employers are championing the idea of "learning on the job" - aka internships and apprenticeships

the building industry is chronically short of skilled labour, but certainly until now, it has been nigh on impossible for course graduates (bricklaying, plumbing, sparks etc) to get the necessary field work and experience

much of the problem almost certainly lies with the plethora a very small trade-companies who do not have the time or money or indeed the inclination to take on extra staff ..... i dare say that some of this is born of the fear of introducing more competition into their locale

We are in a lot of trouble ,wait until 5 years down the road then all this will come back to haunt us .
I have always voted Tory but Cameron is a posh boy born with a silver spoon firmly where the sun doesn't shine ,he wouldn't know an immigrant if he saw one ,he would probably think it was a tired tourist having a lay down in Hyde Park.

It doesn't take much of a brain to see that when these countries join the EU and they have free movement they will flock to the richer countries by the thousands and i don't blame any one of them ,i would (as a young lad) have done exactly the same .

how many of these "paupies" are on benefits, i don't know either, but i'ld certainly like to see access to these time-restricted in some way ...... and if that goes against "eu regs", then 2 fingers to them, as often happens elsewhere in eu with unwanted interference

It's not just who is on benefits ,it is the jobs taken from our citizens and i'm fed up of hearing about all the jobs our young people won't do because that is simply not true .

A disposable coffee cup believed to have been used by Labour leadership hopeful Jeremy Corbyn has sold for £51.

Marie Cooke, from Nottinghamshire, said the MP placed the cup on her table during a break at a rally at the Albert Hall in Nottingham on 20 August.

Ms Cooke, who works for Age UK, said she saw it as a "cheeky" opportunity to raise money for the charity.

She said about 4,000 people watched the item on eBay, and it was eventually won after 22 bids on Thursday evening.

'Some kind of relic'

Ms Cooke was outside the Nottingham Playhouse when Mr Corbyn asked her if she minded if he put his cup on her table.

"We were happy to oblige," she said.

"[When] he went back into the Albert Hall to deliver his speech we thought we'd be a bit cheeky and take the cup and put it on eBay.

"[On Thursday] it just went mad with over 4,000 people looking at it, and we raised £51."

The fundraiser said she would attempt to get Mr Corbyn's autograph to prove it was his cup.

The cup was won by a student in Oxford, according to Ms Cooke.

"I think they are going to turn it into some kind of relic," she said.

How much would i not want to pay £50 for a cup used by any politician .

I do however have something very valuable of Muhammad Ali's , and Tommy Hearns .

i'm not entirely convinced by this "stealing jobs" allegation ..... if a young chap is on benefits, then all too often he'll be more than happy to stay that way if he's better off than taking a menial job, especially if he has a bit of cash work on the side

reduce benefits, and the incentive to live off the state becomes less appealing

They are taking loads of jobs that could be good for our folk.
I was in a prison the other day and two of the officers were foreign one of them i couldn't understand ,that's a good well paid job that many English people would like and you can bet your bottom dollar that they have to take so many foreign because of discrimination .

what evidence of discrimination?

assuredly not all immigrants work harder than their britsh(?) counterparts, but many among the polish and asian community are certainly prepared to work all hours

on another aspect, why do you think there are so many (middle and eastern) european gainfully employed in the building industry?
not (especially) because they are cheaper but more because there is a severely restricted homegrown pool of same ...... for more on that see 62121
