The EU and UK have done nothing for years. The refuges had to take it into their own hands. Now its time for EU including UK to get off their lardy arses and do something. How long can you expect people to suffer in transit camps?

Why specifically mention the EU and UK? What about the even larger number other countries? There is the US, Australia, Israel even and plenty of other that are taking none. Lebanon has around 2 million from Syria and have several thousand refugee camps.

Personally, I think the UK and America have a responsibility for the problems by their invasion of Iraq and lack of planning for the aftermath. But the UN should be more active in supervision.

Also, it is good to see who are the good guys and bad guys in Syria.

Perhaps, based who Cameron can do business deals or arms deal with.

I would like to know who armed ISIS originally before they looted the USA arms depot.

Can't see any problem with UK taking 100k + this year. We already take in 600k migrants so a fraction more refugees is neither here nor there. Also not possible to paddle to USA/Australia. When your grandchildren ask you where did you stand on the refugee crisis it will be a bit cringing to say we did our bit and took in 216 last year.

Not talking but anyone that's unhappy coming to UK. Refugees are from war torn countries escaping for there lives.

Why don't you go and fight for them if your so concerned .

We took in thousands last year. The 216 is lefty propaganda put about by rags like the Mirror. It is not a question of other countries acting before us. It is expecting them to act at the same time. We are going to take immigrants from refugee camps on the Syrian border where they can be processed. The free for all accepting of millions of immigrants into Europe is a recipe for disaster. ISIS are using this as a route to export terrorists to the EU and the UK. This has been shown already. Such large numbers coming into European countries will change the culture of many of the countries. And most importantly, the free access to the EU will just encourage even more to make dangerous journeys. Since recent arrivals, the tide of immigrants has increased.

I am not sure why, but some of above reminds me of the saying "That some know the price of everything and the value of nothing."

Lives don't count, it is cash in the pockets which matters, and it doesn't matter how it got there!

I am concerned as many others are. Before long the arguments will be fully aired and no doubt we will step up and do our share. Was responding to comments. You can tell the character of a person by how he treats those less well off. Time for you to start lift your share.

Fred . well if lives don't count surely these countries that carry out these atrocities and seems there's a lot of them ,have absolutely no regard for life if it isn't the same religion as them or whatever on massive scale against their own .

We took in thousands of refugees last year? How many thousand? This is a generation crisis that needs a human response. Several million entering Europe is a pimple on an ants arse. They can be easily catered for. We who have everything can give a little.

If all this carries on mate you won't have one safe haven in the entire WORLD . Britain always has done for others that's why we are being inundated by people after a free ride .

The 216 people cited in a number of media reports refers to the number of Syrians brought to Britain under a specific scheme - the Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme.

This scheme - which the British government created last year - grants five years' humanitarian protection to vulnerable Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries such as Lebanon or Turkey, where "evacuation from the region is the only option".

However, this relocation programme only reflects a relatively small aspect of the British response to the crisis - and ignores those that have made it to Britain and sought asylum.

The latest available government figures - which count up to June 2015 - show that 4,866 asylum applications were accepted for people from Syria.

Added to the 216 mentioned above, that is 5,085

87% of asylum applications from Syria between Jun 2013 and Jun 2015 were accepted

Britain is only the 10th most popular destinations in Europe with Syrian asylum seekers

Between April 2011 and July 2015, Germany and Sweden have received 47% of all applications from Syrians in the European Union.

The migrants are not the EU's problem, and they are certainly not Britain's problem. Germany may have taken it upon themselves to make it their problem, but that's down to them and them alone.

The good folks of the UK who voted Cameron into office in May cast their votes on the basis that he wouldn't bow to pressure on this and other EU matters. Cameron got into office on the back of an overall majority, so the views of the Looney Left no long count for anything.

Personally, if I were running Greece or Italy, I'd put all the migrants on an old wreck of a boat, tow it out to international waters just offshore from North Africa, and set it adrift. The migrants might not be so keen to find pastures afresh then! But, if they're not prepared to do that, they should at least secure their borders to stop them getting in.

But, for me, is that there are different parts to the ME problems.

The major problem is to treat and care for the "immigrants" and the second problem is to stimulate for the intervention of the UN to bring back "law and order" in the ME.
