THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

We took in thousands of refugees last year? How many thousand? This is a generation crisis that needs a human response. Several million entering Europe is a pimple on an ants arse. They can be easily catered for. We who have everything can give a little.

VICTIM - 09 Sep 2015 12:40 - 62487 of 81564

If all this carries on mate you won't have one safe haven in the entire WORLD . Britain always has done for others that's why we are being inundated by people after a free ride .

This is from ITV web site

There are 126,000 refugees living in the UK (Red Cross figures)

The 216 people cited in a number of media reports refers to the number of Syrians brought to Britain under a specific scheme - the Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme.

This scheme - which the British government created last year - grants five years' humanitarian protection to vulnerable Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries such as Lebanon or Turkey, where "evacuation from the region is the only option".

However, this relocation programme only reflects a relatively small aspect of the British response to the crisis - and ignores those that have made it to Britain and sought asylum.

The latest available government figures - which count up to June 2015 - show that 4,866 asylum applications were accepted for people from Syria.

Added to the 216 mentioned above, that is 5,085

87% of asylum applications from Syria between Jun 2013 and Jun 2015 were accepted

Britain is only the 10th most popular destinations in Europe with Syrian asylum seekers

Between April 2011 and July 2015, Germany and Sweden have received 47% of all applications from Syrians in the European Union.

will10,

The migrants are not the EU's problem, and they are certainly not Britain's problem. Germany may have taken it upon themselves to make it their problem, but that's down to them and them alone.

The good folks of the UK who voted Cameron into office in May cast their votes on the basis that he wouldn't bow to pressure on this and other EU matters. Cameron got into office on the back of an overall majority, so the views of the Looney Left no long count for anything.

Personally, if I were running Greece or Italy, I'd put all the migrants on an old wreck of a boat, tow it out to international waters just offshore from North Africa, and set it adrift. The migrants might not be so keen to find pastures afresh then! But, if they're not prepared to do that, they should at least secure their borders to stop them getting in.

Jeez there are some do gooders on here .

Have a listen to Farage in the EU Parliament today ,he's talking sense .

Fred1new - 09 Sep 2015 12:47 - 62492 of 81564

Victim,

But the UK as a country does not have to sink back to those levels of humanitarian standards.

But, for me, is that there are different parts to the ME problems.

The major problem is to treat and care for the "immigrants" and the second problem is to stimulate for the intervention of the UN to bring back "law and order" in the ME.

(By force if necessary.)

Change the rules!

Then to lift the social and economic expectancies of those regions.

Of course, the above can done overnight!

umumumh!

Jimbo,

As I alluded to above, the do gooders on this thread are in the minority. Their views don't count for anything.

jimmy b - 09 Sep 2015 12:53 - 62494 of 81564

I agree with your post 62493 hilary.

Haystack - 09 Sep 2015 12:53 - 62495 of 81564

You are on the wrong side of history.

https://yougov.co.uk/news/2015/09/06/no-increase-syrian-refugee-numbers/

Most British people say there should be no increase in admissions of Syrian refugees – and concerns over immigration have reached an all-time high

Of the people who can put a number on how many Syrian refugees Britain should take, 50% say it should be zero.

Fred1new - 09 Sep 2015 12:55 - 62496 of 81564

The tories had 37% of the votes in the 2015 election.

Personally, I would chip in to buy a sinking boat to put the hairy one on!

Far better than letting her back into the UK.

Hope she is not avoiding Tax.

will10 - 09 Sep 2015 13:06 - 62497 of 81564

Hilary/jimbo. Way to go. As long as you're all right everyone else can fuck off. Nice altitude. The refugees are the EU/UK's problem. Not everyone ignores those in need. I'd say your views represent the minority of UK residents. Time to step up. What have refugees done to you to make you such a barrel of laughs? The last election did not vote on the refugee crisis. We expect our government to do the right thing

jimmy b - 09 Sep 2015 13:15 - 62498 of 81564

will are you saying they are all refuges ? because a lot of them are not ,read my post 62491.
Why should millions of people come to the UK ?

will10 - 09 Sep 2015 13:22 - 62499 of 81564

Jimb. I said 600k+ migrants welcomed into UK last year. Hays says 5k+ were refugees from syria. I said UK should step up. An additional 100k refugees could be taken in. That's a total of 700k+. Where's the problem??

hilary - 09 Sep 2015 13:33 - 62500 of 81564

The problem is that the people of the UK voted for a government that had a firm grip on immigration. Most people reluctantly accept that Eastern Europeans are allowed to travel freely into the UK, but they don't like it, and they certainly don't see why so many non-EU nationals are allowed in.

I know that not all muslims are terrorists, but it's funny how all terrorists seem to be muslims!

If the immigration quotas are increased, the resentment of indigenous Brits towards immigrants of all forms will worsen, and I can say quite categorically that the EU referendum to be held in 2017 will result in the UK leaving the EU.

By the way, didn't you say a few pages ago that you're an immigrant yourself?

Haystack - 09 Sep 2015 13:37 - 62501 of 81564

Part of the problem is that as can be seen from numerous polls, the public do not want the refugees to come here. You may not like that, but it looks like you are in a minority. Not only don't the public want the sort of numbers that you are talking about, but they don't want ANY.

jimmy b - 09 Sep 2015 13:39 - 62502 of 81564

700K where's the problem ?

will10 that's the size of the population of one of our major cities ! put that together with all the East Europeans coming here ,we are an island for god's sake .

will10 - 09 Sep 2015 14:02 - 62503 of 81564

Hilar . Yes I'm from Canada. I am talking about refugees . There were 600k + migrants last year, subtract 350 uk residents that left, to get nett migration. Not all were refugees. This has been rising over the last few years.
There are about 6 million refugees from war torn countries. Many seek refuge in Europe. The EU and UK should get off there arses and accept some of these. It wouldn't be a problem for the UK to accept 100k+ refugees. This is on top of the nett migrant numbers. So can the UK cope with 400k+ nett. Yes it can no problem.
Hays. Disagree. Our so call MPs are moving behind the public opinion labour talks about 10k + Tory 5k+ snp??. . How can UK turn a blind eye and say they are morally justified on taking 5k per year out of 4million. Bet before 12 months is out we take many many more. The alternative ..... Will you stand wringing your hands saying I'm morally right it is not my problem someone else can do it. The UK once a world leader now a disgrace. How have we fallen so far??

jimmy b - 09 Sep 2015 14:04 - 62504 of 81564

will10 Canada has loads of space you could house them all .

will10 - 09 Sep 2015 14:06 - 62505 of 81564

Hilary. Not all terrorists are muslims. You got you logic wrong. Plenty of non Muslim terrorists around.
