Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

RF,
Because the are aware of possible long-term consequences of the actions you suggest.
Also, embarrassed by the responsibility of situations by the previous actions.
Also, they have streaks of common decency and humanity which appears lacking in some!

Moving away form the discussion of why we don't do our share to help refugees.
Good old unfetered capitalism is the the reason people up sticks and move.
I accept that capitalism best delivers wealth. But it is the concentration of that wealth in the hands of the few, and its inability to fairly distribute it is what will sow its destruction.
The migration of people for economic gain is one of capitalisms main principles.
Make the benefits of wealth more fairly distributed and a lot of the worlds problems will be easied.

Will,
Agreed.
Capitalism is an interesting driving force for a society, but by some it is worship and is a false god.
It is a phantasy theory with its uses.
It needs to be restrained.

Human Rights Act: Nicola Sturgeon Says Scottish Government Will Block UK's Repeal of 1998 Law
"The Scottish Government will also oppose any weakening of human rights protections," the first minister said. The Tories want British courts to have rule over the European Court of Human Rights.

A man who walked into a Manchester police station and demanded to be sent back to Iran as he has "had enough of Manchester" has been revealed as Arash Aria, 25. Aria told the Telegraph that rudeness and violence from fellow residents of the city was what led him to demand deportation.
The unusual incident first came to light in a Twitter post by Greater Manchester Police, who tweeted on 21 September: "Male arrested earlier at our front desk when he demanded to be returned home to Iran as he has had enough of Manchester after 10 years."
They added: "Very angry young man, who has been here illegally last 10 years, strange incident."
After immigration checks revealed Aria was not residing in the UK illegally - and had indefinite leave to remain in the country - he was released.
Speaking to the Telegraph on Wednesday (23 September), he said that he had become fed up with the attitude of some of the locals and his failure to find work. "The people of Manchester have not been welcoming," he told the paper. "It's words, violence, many things. I try to ignore people but I'm fed up now. I don't get the respect I should here. People are not friendly here in Manchester. When they are rude to me, I don't like it."
He added that his Iranian passport had expired and that he was waiting for documents he sent to the Home Office to be returned.
"I want to go back to my city Shiraz, in south-west Iran. My aunt and my family will look after me there because my mother will stay here in England," he said. "I am just waiting for my passport to come through and then I will book my flights and start my life out there."

Victim,
I doubt that GF detested the immigrant community and suggest that is a projection of you own feelings.
Also, you maybe bored by my postings and have a suggestion to make, ie. start your own thread.
As far as hating Cameron is concerned, that would be a step to far.
But, I do think that he and a few others in the present government an insult to the UK and democracy as "I" see it.

Those that fondly wish for the Thatcher years to return will remember the abiding war cry "get on your bike to better yourself". What say you now when people even without bikes do what Tory doctorine promotes.
People are only doing what the worshipers of the great she devil Mrs T required as the means to be responsible for your own destiny.
Many of those on the move are true Tories by temperament only seeking to better themselves.
Wonder boy Dave should look on the bright side and sign them up as they come ashore.

At that time Thatcher was referring to Brits. As it happens many EU citizens have done exactly that and moved to the UK in their hundreds of thousands because their own countries, mostly ex soviet bloc, couldn't provide. A real indictment on the type of socialism for which Corbyn still has fond feelings. I have no problem with them coming here since the vast majority are hard working and providing the services we need. But I am against hoards illegally pouring across our borders. Cameron is right by taking only verified refugees from camps outside the EU borders. All illegal migrants should be sent back but that will not happen. Merkel opened a pandoras box by mouthing off without thinking off the consequences. As for the meetings in Brussels to find practical solutions, how can a bunch that I wouldnt trust to change a light bulb come up with something practical?
The southern border has to be secured from people coming in and Syria sorted out. If that means keeping Assad, so be it. It should not be beyond the abilities of even these clowns to come up with a plan to drive out the radicals and create semi autonomous zones based upon traditional tribal loyalties.
