How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?
Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Was one of the best cards for me for the day. Bit of a mare really isn't it. Personally I think they should void any crash affected races.

I agree with you but ultimately that is a pro trader view and against the pure punter. What about the poor guy whos had a lumpy bet on the winner but doesnt get paid because the site crashed just before the race. And where do you draw the line - what if the site crashes 2f from home - do you still void all
(just playing devils advocate)

They won't settle the card now, so I am stuffed. My balance has shrunk while the decide what to do! Not that I would want to trade for the moment anyhow. Will have to wait and see.
I did get a hint of the crash about a minute before it happened. I have been testing again this afternoon and it threw a wobbler for a few seconds. So maybe I should have bothered after seeing that.

Fundy, I know what you are saying. If Gangsters R us would have won, I wouldn't have complained. But I think they need to have a hard and fast rule. I am limbo at the moment.

I've been looking at the matched bets and time and depending on their ruling on this I could still get a massive spanking. Some money was match a split second before the race got underway so depending on how they interpret the data it could be anywhere.

ive been hit a couple of times before with this, once losing what id made in the whole week, however i dont see anything changing so have come to accept it as an "occupational hazard" albeit a frustrating and expensive one at times.
Because people trade differently (ie some wait to lay off in running) it is very hard for them to draw the line but the rule does need to be clearer.
Also, do they need different rules for different sports - where do you draw the line for example if the site crashes during a 5 day test match?
Funny thing with that race was just before it crashed someone put up 3.95 on the fav (it had been 3.5/3.55) and i would have taken it if i wasnt worried about the site

Back from lunch and I see that the outage at betfair has created mayhem.
Scrip and others....Really sorry that you have suffered from the fallout.

Ended in profit for the day. If it wasn't for the outage I would have had a clean sweep for the day. Such is life. Actually quite happy in the end.

good to hear, your braver than me - i closed the site down for the afternoon - saving my ammo for a very interesting nights cricket
the draw is currently 2.28, by the end of tomorrows play it could be 1.4 if Pakistan bat on nearly all day and get a big lead, it could be 50+ if England bowl Pakn out before lunch and then lose wickets in their second innings - likely to be they day where the future of the match pans out greatly

Thanks for cricket update.
Just need to add that Inza is OK to resume his innings as he only suffered bruising.
Should be an interesting 3rd day.

Hello Scrip
Been on this for about 12 hours today, between outages! I'm not sure that there is news out as HR in my view would be a lot shorter. There was some confusion earlier when they suspended the market to reshuffle the pack thats when the 1.01 came in. But hey ho I'll keep playing as long as this volatility keeps going
