Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

I like it when a tory government admits it is so bereft of talent it has to borrow from the Labour Party. Not only organising ability, but policy.
I suppose we can always hope for further improvements.

using the same (il)logic, it doesn't say much for JC's appeal that one if its stalwarts is very happy to give up the labour whip to work for the opposition

I would say the same about most resorts. 11 or 12 days is my limit. As for board, I prefer to get out for lunch and dinner. Why hang around a hotel when on holiday unless you have young kids to consider? Tried all the costas, Greece, Turkey etc until I happened to go to the Algarve almost by accident. I have been back every year since. A bit more crowded since the EU kindly funded the motorway from Spain. Now you have the spanish escaping from the Brits...

Boris Johnson: Anti-austerity protesters are 'mob of assorted crusties with nose-rings'
EXCLUSIVE: Mayor of London hits back at Conservative conference protesters after they labelled him 'Tory scum'
By Michael Wilkinson, Political Correspondent10:56AM BST 05 Oct 2015
Boris Johnson has labelled anti-austerity protesters 'a mob of assorted crusties with nose rings' after they hurled abuse at him at the Conservative conference.
The Mayor of London also criticised Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn who plans to meet the protesters at a rally in Manchester this evening.
Angry protesters were filmed by The Telegraph shouting "Tory scum! Tory scum!" as Mr Johnson entered the secure zone at the conference being held in the city.
Four people were arrested as reports came in of journalists being spat at and cabinet minister Jeremy Hunt facing abuse as he left the conference.
But last night Mr Johnson hit back at a private party of northern Tories.
He said: "What a wonderful welcome we received earlier from some of the assorted crusties with nose-rings. They shouted as I came in "Tories, come! Tories, come!"
"If they meant anything rude by that I think it is a comment on the fatuity and the paucity of Labour politics today.
"I think most people looking at Jeremy Corbyn turning up to join that mob tomorrow will recognise that it is the Conservative party that speaks for working people."
Mr Johnson was surrounded by ecstatic Conservative members who took it in turns to pose for selfies with him.
Guests also enjoyed a visit by David Cameron who promised that the party will win "an even bigger majority in 2020".
Mr Cameron could not hold back his delight at the victories in his "northern powerhouse" such as taking Bolton West from Labour.
He also made a veiled criticism of former Tory peer Lord Ashcroft, who made a series of claims about Mr Cameron's private life in his new book Call Me Dave.
Mr Cameron said: "There is a danger at this conference. The press are saying that it is going to be an orgy of back-slapping and self-congratulations.
"Now we are allowed a little a bit of congratulations but we'll leave the orgies to Michael Ashcroft."
Tory activists partied the night away with complimentary drinks as they celebrated the majority they won at the election.
Mr Johnson told the crowd: "Isn't this the most unbelievable, dynamic, thrusting, bubbling Tory party conference you've ever seen.
"This is the first Tory party conference in a generation that is taking place under a majority Conservative government."
The conference launched against the backdrop of up to 80,000 protesters, backed by the unions, who marched through the streets of Manchester.
Activist singer Charlotte Church and Green Party leader Natalie Bennett are among those expected at a further anti-austerity protest today.
Ms Church issued an apology on behalf of all "peaceful" protesters after yesterday's march was marred by some isolated incidents of violence.
Mr Corbyn, meanwhile, takes the unusual step of attending a rally at Manchester Cathedral to defend postal services.

Until last year I passed through Lisbon twice a month. On my way to and from Brazil with TAP. So I know what you are on about Cynic. However, my wife likes the beach, me less so. We both are fluent in portuguese and we have made many friends on the algarve, including the owners of good restaurants. For us it is like going home for a time and meeting good friends as much as anything else. But 10 or 11 days is enough. Often my wife would join me for 3 days or so in Lisbon on my way back from Brazil and we would rent a car and head out on the vineyard routes.

confess neither beloved nor i sit on beaches
with regard to food, we reckon lisbon/cascais easily knocks the socks off the algarve, and nor are they overpriced unlike the notorious gigi's which i am sure you know
there's the added advantage that it is not rammed with ex-pat brits and sundry other european holiday makers
if you play golf, there's also a plethora of fine courses near lisbon, though they can be pretty windy due to exposure to the atlantic

The House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament
The House of Lords is facing severe criticism over its expenses system Photo: PA
By Steven Swinford, Michael Wilkinson and Dillon Leet9:00PM BST 29 Jul 2015
Twenty "silent peers" have been paid more than £1.6million in allowances and travel expenses over the past five years despite them making almost no contribution to debates in the House of Lords.
The peers, who include former ministers and an aide to the Queen, are entitled to claim a tax-free allowance of £300-a-day for attending the House of Lords as well as travel costs for those living outside London.
An analysis by The Telegraph found that one member has claimed more than £200,000 for attending the Lords while four have claimed over £100,000. They have barely spoken on the floor of the house.
One of the peers told The Telegraph that he House of Lords is "lucky to have me" despite his cost to the taxpayer, while another complained that the allowance system is not generous enough.
It comes amid growing concerns about the size of the House of Lords allowance system in the wake of the resignation of Lord Sewel, who quit over allegations he snorted cocaine with prostitutes.

I avoid the stretch between Faro and Albufeira. Quinta do Lago etc. Most times I stay in Silves, Armação de Pêra; but I stayed recently at the Cascade resort at Lagos. Very few expats. We tend to go out with portuguese friends. Some from Porto are invariably there when we are. Occasionally some from Brazil also. They are always ready to party. Lagos has some good sea trips . Schooners and inflatables etc. Almost guaranteed to see dolphins.
I used to play golf a lot in S Africa but not much these days. Good walk spoiled.

I've now got this vision of Mr and Mrs Cyners on a Languedocienne plage naturiste, reading their one day old copy of the Times, and sporting nothing but a knotted hankie and their socks and sandals.
