How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

good to hear, your braver than me - i closed the site down for the afternoon - saving my ammo for a very interesting nights cricket

the draw is currently 2.28, by the end of tomorrows play it could be 1.4 if Pakistan bat on nearly all day and get a big lead, it could be 50+ if England bowl Pakn out before lunch and then lose wickets in their second innings - likely to be they day where the future of the match pans out greatly

Thanks for cricket update.

Just need to add that Inza is OK to resume his innings as he only suffered bruising.

Should be an interesting 3rd day.

Evening all, anybody been following the Portsmouth managers market? For me it's been a fabulous trading market. Have been working it since yesterday and showing a very healthy profit!

Scripophilist - 30 Nov 2005 18:26 - 6360 of 10502

Beat me to it Aristo.

For Bet Angel users - Market 4100713

Nexts Portsmouth manager. Volume has suddently taken off and flying around all over the place. Redknapp matched at 1.01.

Some news is leaking out I think?

Scripophilist - 30 Nov 2005 18:26 - 6361 of 10502

I had a nibble at 3.45 for a laugh.

Scripophilist - 30 Nov 2005 18:26 - 6362 of 10502

Wish I'd laid of at 1.01!

Aristo - 30 Nov 2005 18:35 - 6363 of 10502

Hello Scrip
Been on this for about 12 hours today, between outages! I'm not sure that there is news out as HR in my view would be a lot shorter. There was some confusion earlier when they suspended the market to reshuffle the pack thats when the 1.01 came in. But hey ho I'll keep playing as long as this volatility keeps going

WOODIE - 30 Nov 2005 18:39 - 6364 of 10502

best priced matched for hr was 60 at small stake who was the lucky sod!

Aristo - 30 Nov 2005 18:52 - 6365 of 10502

First time I've been in a managers market, I cant imagine its always this way? I'm only trading it but somehow I just don't see hr taking it. Gonna leave it for a while now, all very green so content. Also backed Man U last night at 1.65 so will dump that shortly!

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 19:40 - 6366 of 10502

Warnock available at 3.05 even though Sheff Utd have given Pompey permission to speak to him

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 19:47 - 6367 of 10502

make that 3.7

can anyone explain to me why Redknapp is so low before i back warnock

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 20:01 - 6368 of 10502

Nice to see im in profit already - Warnock down to 2.9

Surely the prices for the front 2 are thewrong way round - someone help me out here

Scripophilist - 30 Nov 2005 20:06 - 6369 of 10502

It's odd isn't. All I can think is that its just rampant speculation.

I can't see Harry heading back down the M27 again, would be unheard of.

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 20:27 - 6370 of 10502

Huge amount of spoofing going on, money being put into the market and then pulled seconds later

Scripophilist - 30 Nov 2005 20:34 - 6371 of 10502

Harry now into 1.42, still can't see it. If it gets to very short odds, I'll be tempted to lay a chunk.

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 20:35 - 6372 of 10502

Redknapp now 1.4 lol

Either someone is in the know and drip feeding the money into the market or the herd mentality is displaying its best characters.

Was just thinking, Redknapp and Warnock could be in collusion to see just how much money they can make out of betfair before both telling Pompey to p*ss off :-)

Bugz - 30 Nov 2005 20:57 - 6373 of 10502

Is the blackburn charlton match continuously suspended on eveyone's machine?!

Been like this for AGES!

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 20:59 - 6374 of 10502

Bugz

not an in play game tonight - hope you didnt back before kick off hoping to trade

Bugz - 30 Nov 2005 21:01 - 6375 of 10502

Laid the draw last night-just was headed to have a look.

I didnt realise Betfair did that and I've been betting for months!! haha - How do you find out which matches are in play and which are not?

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 21:04 - 6376 of 10502

If on the menus on the left you go into Soccer, then Coupons, in that list there will be a midweek in-play and a weekend in-play coupon, these are the games in play. Alternatively, as a fail safe before placing a bet on any game click on the rules tab and it will tell you there whether the game will be turned in-play
