How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

It's odd isn't. All I can think is that its just rampant speculation.

I can't see Harry heading back down the M27 again, would be unheard of.

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 20:27 - 6370 of 10502

Huge amount of spoofing going on, money being put into the market and then pulled seconds later

Scripophilist - 30 Nov 2005 20:34 - 6371 of 10502

Harry now into 1.42, still can't see it. If it gets to very short odds, I'll be tempted to lay a chunk.

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 20:35 - 6372 of 10502

Redknapp now 1.4 lol

Either someone is in the know and drip feeding the money into the market or the herd mentality is displaying its best characters.

Was just thinking, Redknapp and Warnock could be in collusion to see just how much money they can make out of betfair before both telling Pompey to p*ss off :-)

Bugz - 30 Nov 2005 20:57 - 6373 of 10502

Is the blackburn charlton match continuously suspended on eveyone's machine?!

Been like this for AGES!

Bugz

not an in play game tonight - hope you didnt back before kick off hoping to trade

Bugz - 30 Nov 2005 21:01 - 6375 of 10502

Laid the draw last night-just was headed to have a look.

I didnt realise Betfair did that and I've been betting for months!! haha - How do you find out which matches are in play and which are not?

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 21:04 - 6376 of 10502

If on the menus on the left you go into Soccer, then Coupons, in that list there will be a midweek in-play and a weekend in-play coupon, these are the games in play. Alternatively, as a fail safe before placing a bet on any game click on the rules tab and it will tell you there whether the game will be turned in-play

Evening All,

I see that everybody's having fun on the next Portsmouth manager.

Bugz...Careful with some games as not all are "in play". If you take a position before KO, its a pure gamble. I've been caught out before so I always check now

Bugz - 30 Nov 2005 21:06 - 6378 of 10502

Cheers Fundy & Bakko.

Yeah I never noticed. Been lucky to date so it hasnt shafted me!! All good, so far though....:-)

Bakko

this market is completely mad - either ssomeone knows what is going to happen already or the herd mentality has gone loopy lol.

As far as I can see, Pompey have approached only Sheff Utd and Rangers and have been given permission to speak to Warnock but refused permission to speak to McLeish (though that may change if they get stuffed by Milan next week). Lowe has stated they have not been approached.

Redknapp 1.43
Warnock 5.5
McLeish 32

Fundy I agree-Gonna wack a healthy sized lay on Redknapp...........

bakko - 30 Nov 2005 21:16 - 6381 of 10502

Thanks Steve,

I'll give it a wide berth. I don't fancy getting sucked in to get hanged!

I'm just waiting for something decent to show up on some of the footy games. Not too bothered if nothing shows up as banked a really nice profit tonight on a Dow sell spreadbet that I had on from last week.

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 21:26 - 6382 of 10502

Bak

it looks like it falls into the "too good to be true category" but ive got a small lay on redknapp.

watching a little of wigan reserves vs newcastle - looks like not too long till we'll be discussing the next newcastle manager market

Aristo - 30 Nov 2005 21:26 - 6383 of 10502

Just back in and glad to have not continued with hr trade, it all smells a bit as I can see! Or there is a killing to be had? I do not have the knowledge or experience to tell but I know there is more money to be had - frustrating! Will back off for the time being

bakko - 30 Nov 2005 21:29 - 6384 of 10502

Steve

Funny how you happened to mention Newcastle as just gone green by scalping the draw for over 20 ticks in under 3mins!

Aristo - 30 Nov 2005 21:30 - 6385 of 10502

Also forgot to press the green up button on Man U so am happy days!

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 21:30 - 6386 of 10502

Was just looking to see what price wigan were to qualify when the pen was given :-(

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2005 21:31 - 6387 of 10502

Nice one Aristo - if a little fortunate

Aristo - 30 Nov 2005 21:37 - 6388 of 10502

Thanks Fundy
Luck indeed took the profit earlier just from the drift back in, as a norm i tend to green out when able so no nasty surprises, most rare normally it comes back to bite me!
