THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

You get what you vote for chaps, so less winging please.

iturama - 29 Oct 2015 15:13 - 64224 of 81564

I will wear my poppy in remembrance of my paternal grandfather and his brother who were killed within months of each other in Flanders in WW1. Also for all the other men and women that have died since serving this country. The least we can do to honor their service. The faults of the political class have no bearing on the matter. The money goes to the British Legion, not the government.

"The faults of the political class have no bearing on the matter."

Just the opposite, unless you are in denial.

cynic - 29 Oct 2015 15:29 - 64226 of 81564

good to see MrT refusing to buy a poppy for other than his usual "scum poles and jews and other migrants"

i always, always, always buy a poppy and also support inter alia, RNLI, Air Ambulance, Macmillan Nurses and St Mungo's

i avoid any african-based charities - riddled with corruption which means too much does not get distributed where intended - or the likes of Oxfam where the admin costs are disproportionately high

cynic - 29 Oct 2015 15:39 - 64227 of 81564

kids company
and talking of corruption or something akin, there is something very very strange for various alarm bells have been rung for the last 12 years

i don't know what magic powers MsB must wield, but clearly they are considerable

Just going back to poppies and "Polish scum" for one moment, we should remember Squadrons 302 and 303 of the RAF. These were manned by highly skilled and experienced Polish pilots. In the Battle of Britain, 303 squadron was the most successful fighter command of the Battle. It shot down 126 German aircraft in 42 days, for the loss of 29 of its own pilots.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, who led Fighter Command, would later write:

"Had it not been for the magnificent material contributed by the Polish squadrons and their unsurpassed gallantry, I hesitate to say that the outcome of the Battle would have been the same."

Brave men indeed and we all owe them a debt of gratitude. I will wear my poppy for them also.

You only have to see the Polish War Memorial in South Ruislip to see the numbers that fought on our side in the war

Over 80% of asylum seekers in Germany unqualified - report

Published time: 29 Oct, 2015 11:57

Over 80 percent of the asylum seekers recently arrived in Germany have no formal qualifications, and only eight percent have a college degree, local media reported citing research by the country's Federal Employment Agency.

Germany (population 80 million) may receive 1.5 million asylum seekers this year alone. It has already accepted more asylum applications than any other European nation, with a number of critics pointing to a high number of uneducated and illiterate people coming to the country.

The Federal Employment Agency has stated that 81 percent of asylum seekers are "without formal qualifications," the Junge Freiheit daily reported, citing a nine-page report entitled "Refugees in Germany: Take responsibility, identify opportunities."

it was very revealing that germany's "open door" closed after just a couple of weeks
someone suddenly woke up to the lunacy of the concept and the inherent dangers that would come in its wake
