Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

suggest you do a trawl of the Lords and then find out their backgrounds etc etc

btw, lord winston was or even still is very much a doctor who has contributed hugely to society through his chosen field and research

can't envisage that any brickies have done so, nor (m)any teachers

================

of course, the late lord kagan was of inestimable value to the uk rainwear industry

The weakness of the US system is that it is bicameral. That is the two houses have equal power and deadlock is often the result as with Clinton and Obama finding it impossible to set the budget. At least we have asymmetric bicameralism, so that one chamber has primacy over the other. I hope that when we have an elected second chamber, it is subordinate to the the first.

Haystack - 20 Feb 2017 14:22 - 6435 of 12628

I would expect a couple of amendments to be passed in the Lords on A50. They will return to the Commons and probably be rejected. The Lords may then accept the Bill or attempt a second try. Either way, the end of March schedule should not be in danger.

The real problems will occur during the two years or at the end. As details come out the Lord's could be quite obstructive.

iturama - 20 Feb 2017 14:45 - 6436 of 12628

Remember that the USA is a union of States and that the Senate system, and the presidential voting system, was designed to prevent populous States riding rough shod over the smaller States. I agree that in the UK, the second tier should not be subordinate to the House as is the case at present. I would prefer the second tier to be elected on a cerimonial county basis and only involve those regions which are not devolved, when English law is being debated.

Haystack - 20 Feb 2017 14:49 - 6437 of 12628

If you have a second chamber subordinate to the first then legislation doesn't get passed. We have a system where the first chamber gets its way as it should.

Poland sees 100,000-200,000 Poles coming home after Brexit

WARSAW, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Between 100,000 and 200,000 Poles living in Britain may return home as a result of Britain leaving the European Union, a Polish government ministry said on Monday.

"The situation around Brexit combined with improvement in the socio-economic situation in Poland may mean that some Poles (an estimate of 100,000-200,000) presently living in Great Britain will decided to return," Poland's Development Ministry said in a reply to a question by a member of parliament.

Some 916,000 Poles live in the United Kingdom, according to 2015 data from Britain's Office for National Statistics.

UK rejects residency for over quarter of EU citizens
British PM will announce curbs on new EU migrants.- By SAIM SAEED 2/27/17

Some 28 percent of EU citizens who have applied for permanent residency in the U.K. since Brexit had their applications rejected or invalidated, the Guardian reported Monday.

To qualify for U.K. residency, European Union citizens must live in Britain for at least five years.

The report comes as the Telegraph revealed British Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to announce that EU citizens who move to the U.K. after Article 50 divorce proceedings are triggered will not have the right to stay in the U.K. permanently.

Those who come to Britain after Brexit negotiations formally begin, expected around March 15, may require entry visas and have access to benefits restricted, the Telegraph reported. EU citizens who currently reside in the U.K. will have their rights protected as long as the rights of British citizens in the EU are protected in kind.

The EU has been pushing for European citizens to move freely in the U.K. until the end of Brexit negotiations rather than the beginning, but British officials are worried of a potential surge in migrants until then, according to the report.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd said the U.K. “will be ending free movement as we know it.”

Were you at the Oscars last night Freda with your chums , you know those waste of space luvvies that live in a sort of la la land environment , must have shed a tear or two as they seem to come from your Disney life of wonderment and head in clouds protest about everything but really haven't a clue .

From inside information

Freda was busy >>>>>> canvassing for the Labour party on Copeland, so in 4 years time they can take it back, provided Corbin is not in the helm

Why should I go home?

Somebody has to try to educate and train ignorant little nincompoops like you seem to be.

mentor - 27 Feb 2017 15:27 - 6450 of 12628

Georgy

May as well speak the truth, being nice does not work on this time and age.

Be frank and say how you feel and how you see things time and time again, that is why the Brexiteers WON, on seeing and voting accordingly.
Too many wrongs things and abused the system by those immigrants and bringing the country down on the social sphere ( Social security, schools, Hospitals, etc.) ask the Labour Party for more information on how to abuse the system ( like let poor immigrants in so they will vote for us )

note : there will always be some good between the baddy's
and "Freda" was a refugee ( abusing the system long, long time ago )

2517GEORGE - 27 Feb 2017 15:49 - 6451 of 12628

mentor, I'm all for being truthful but your remarks aimed at all East Europeans are unacceptable, such talk gives credence to the Remoaners claim that all Brexiteers are racist little Englanders.

Regarding the abuse of the system, given you were in their shoes what would you do, the problem/blame lay at the feet of the government of the day for allowing such abuse.

Of course there are too many immigrants in the UK, that's why many of us voted out, but it's not their fault for wanting to be here.
