Sequestor, have you tried clearing browser cache? sometimes helps but not as often as it used to.

Did the browser get updated when your broadband was installed?

Do you use Windows Update? have you run it recently?

Not much help sorry....

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggg

I am trying to save a file on win xp. The file is autorun.inf. No matter what I do it saves it as autorun.inf.txt because I created it with notepad.

Does anyone know how to rename this file. And, no, rename don't work. I can change it to autorun.inf.doc or autorun.inf.xls but not autorun.inf

BTW you can only tell it's got the .txt bit on the end when you look at it on a earlier version of windows.

Bloody MS.

Mike - open the relevant folder in Windows Explorer/My Computer. From the Tools menu choose Folder Options. On the View tab, clear the "Hide Extensions for Known File Types" (or similar) item. Choose Apply (and click the Apply to All Folders button if you want to change the behaviour throughout your system), then OK. The full filename will now be displayed and can be edited. To avoid the problem in future, change the "Save as Type" dropdown in the Notepad save dialog to All Files - this prevents the .txt being added.

Done it, had to download PFE and recreate it.

Surely there must be a simpler way?

Martini,
go to www.mozilla.org and just download your own preferences, for yourself-you will need to get Java and stuff but it leads you through the procedure like a dream, (and most of the time I am in one these days, so it has to be easy if I can do it),
really good stuff.

cheers

ps after I has sweated over a hot PC for two days trying to sort Explorer,

Sequestor (et all),

Try Mozilla Firebird, a fork of the mozilla project. Its just the browser rather than news/email client too, and it is just lovely. I am using 0.6.1 with a few plugins/extensions and it is lovely. No crashes or anything :)

Just my 2p

I'm trying to make my Olympus software send email pics without sucess. I suspect I'm putting the wrong thing in the "Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box. Can some kind soul tell me what it is for ntlfreedom (ntlworld as was)?
tia

the troll - 30 Jul 2003 14:16 - 656 of 11003

hawkeye - probably smtp.ntlworld.com, should be the same as whatever is in your email program's outgoing mail server/SMTP server entry.

Any ideas?

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 04 Aug 2003 14:49 - 660 of 11003

Iain,

Unlikley that you will be able to do an entire backup onto one CD with todays hard drives.

You can open nero and drag all your work files/My Documents stuff into it just to back them up, which is all you really need to do...

Robb - 05 Aug 2003 11:21 - 662 of 11003

Does anyone know if its ok to load excel and word from 98SE on to a m/c that has XP? I think my old m/c is indicating to me that it wants to retire and I would like excel and word on my No.1 m/c but don't want to splash out unnecessarily on Office XP SB.

Thanks
Rob

robber - 05 Aug 2003 11:25 - 663 of 11003

Rob, do you mean that you want to install MS office 97 from the disc that you used to load it onto your 98SE PC? If so the answer is yes, no problem.
