THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

seems to me that fred's solution would just be nice cosy chats with IS (with coffee and sandwiches of course), asking them not to be naughty boys and what nice pressie would they like to persuade them to agree

-=-==-=

At the end of the day there will have to be "talk TalK" to settled the multitude of problems, what I prefer is actions prior to that which don't escalate the number of innocent people killed for other people's satisfaction preceding the talking.

Nor do I want to see the armament financiers and "gun runners" moving the "money" on to another event.

Putting the actions down to being "pragmatic" and "the way it is" and if I don't do it somebody else will, so why shouldn't I profit.

Benefitting from the sacrifice of other people's lives.

"Not putting their own lives on the line but playing war games from their own armchairs and cheering the others on."

=-==-=-=

I would like to see "those" concerned in the atrocities, at the Hague trying to defend themselves.

cynic - 18 Nov 2015 10:58 - 64827 of 81564

so what are you ACTUALLY proposing in your "actions prior to talk-talk"?

Haystack - 18 Nov 2015 10:59 - 64828 of 81564

It looks like the terrorists killed and arrested this morning may have been about to commit a bombing today. There could be others about to do the same. In the 'ticking bomb' scenario, do torture the ones arrested today?

I am not in favour of the death penalty, but the French do have an event method of dealing with treason. They guillotine you face up.

cynic - 18 Nov 2015 11:09 - 64830 of 81564

torture?
good heavens no ...... merely some friendly questioning over a cup of coffee with steak frites on the house at lunchtime

Haystack - 18 Nov 2015 11:14 - 64831 of 81564

A mathematician, a physicist, and an engineer are all found guilty of treason and are sentenced to beheading by guillotine.

On the day of the triple execution, they are brought to be beheaded. The priest blesses the execution, saying all is done in God's name, and the King orders the three executed.

The mathematician is to be killed first, and the executioner gives him two options: would he like a hood on or off, and would he like to be face up or face down.

So the mathematician says "Well, they all arrive at the equivalent state of beheading, so it's an arbitrary choice. I suppose I'll take no hood and face down, since it's the simplest solution."

So they lock him into the guillotine, the executioner drops the blade... and it stops inches from his neck.

The priest exclaims "It's a sign from God! This man is innocent! He must be let free!"

The King agrees, pardons the mathematician, and lets him go.

Next up to be killed is the physicist. He is given the same options: hood on or off; face up or face down.

So the physicist thinks, and says "Well, I've spent my whole life looking up at the stars and studying them... but it's broad daylight. I will take the hood to make it dark like night, and face up towards the Heavens."

So they lock him into the guillotine, the executioner drops the blade... and it stops inches from his neck.

The priest exclaims again "It's a sign from God! This man is innocent! He must be let free!"

The King agrees, pardons the physicist, and lets him go.

Finally, it's the engineer's turn to face the guillotine. He's given the same options: hood on or off; face up or down.

The engineer ponders, and says "I've spent my whole life studying machines and mechanical devices. If I am to be killed by the most efficient killing machine of all time, then I will look at its workings while I die! Hood off and face up!"

So they lock him into the guillotine, and the executioner is about to drop the blade, when the engineer exclaims: "I see the problem!"

for myself, i am very happy that we should accept syrian refugees, always provided they come direct from the camps in/around syria where they can be vetted with at least some degree of effectiveness

how many?
not sure ..... 1,000,000? not likely! ...... 20,000 over 4 years? sounds a bit paltry but care needs to be taken about the "creep" of then allowing in extended family members

hilary - 18 Nov 2015 12:33 - 64838 of 81564

Forget about 20k over 4 years. 1 over 100 years would be 1 too many!

jimmy b - 18 Nov 2015 12:34 - 64839 of 81564

ooh hilary don't let Fred hear you say that ..

hilary - 18 Nov 2015 12:36 - 64840 of 81564

Why would I worry about what that boring old fart thinks, Jimbo?

cynic - 18 Nov 2015 12:37 - 64841 of 81564

i'm amazed you should have that view hilary
why?

hilary - 18 Nov 2015 12:43 - 64842 of 81564

Because they're not the UK's problem, Cyners, nor mainland Europe's for that matter. If they want to blow themselves up, that's fine by me, but they've got their own country/countries within which to do it.

Personally, I'd put them all on a ship and tow it back to North Africa.

jimmy b - 18 Nov 2015 12:46 - 64843 of 81564

I got to say i agree with hilary ...

Trust me because of Merkel and the amount who went to Germany there is a lot more bloodshed to come .
