THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Sky has launched a new service called Sky Q that blends live and on-demand TV as it tries to compete with the likes of Netflix.
The company described the new platform as its most significant product launch since HD and "a new way to watch TV".
The package will comprise a set-top box and a "super premium package" and will be separate from Sky's Now TV on-demand service.
Experts questioned what it would cost as Sky has not revealed pricing for the product.
Sky's Andrew Olson told Rory Cellan-Jones that it was a new "premium" offering.

It looks like Corbyn could get a bloody nose on Tuesday

The Labour leader could see large numbers of his own MPs line up against him as early next week, with the SNP believed to be planning a vote on the UK's nuclear-armed submarines on Tuesday.

The SNP are set to table a House of Commons motion asking MPs to back the scrapping of the Trident programme.

Mr Corbyn strongly opposes nuclear weaponry and has called for Britain to get rid of its warhead missiles.

But many Labour MPs, including shadow defence secretary Maria Eagle, support maintaining a continuous nuclear deterrent.

Mr Corbyn dodged a debate about Trident at Labour's annual conference in September, but the SNP plans will force the Opposition leader into a showdown with his MPs over the issue earlier than he would like.

It is believed Mr Corbyn will order his MPs to abstain in Tuesday's votes, but many will defy his intervention and point out it is still the party's policy to renew Trident.

David Cameron and senior ministers to get dedicated plane

The government will give David Cameron and senior ministers the use of a converted RAF plane for official trips

By Steven Swinford, Deputy Political Editor

10:00PM GMT 18 Nov 2015

David Cameron and senior ministers are to be given the use of a dedicated plane for long-distance trips instead of chartered flights.

The government will announce next week that it will spend £10million refitting an RAF plane which is normally used for air-to-air refuelling.

Ministers insist that the plane will save the taxpayer up to £775,000 a year on the cost of Downing Street's flights because it will avoid the use of costly charter flights.

Downing Street is likely to face criticism over the announcement as it comes ahead of the spending review which will see deep cuts across Whitehall.

It will cost significantly less than Tony Blair's plans for "Blair Force One", which involved the purchase of two private jets for the Prime Minister's use and the Royal Family at an estimated cost of £100million.

Gordon Brown, the then Chancellor, blocked the plans and later abandoned them entirely when he became Prime Minister. The Conservatives criticised the idea at the time saying it was the “wrong moment to be splashing out taxpayers' money on funding the government to travel in style".

More austerity here:
