Please report bugs and enhancements (BUGS)

andy.lovell - 04 Nov 2002 11:26

If you're having any problems, or want to suggest some improvements, please post below!

Level2 changes
In the last few weeks we've needed to implement some code changes to make us compliant with the LSE's rules on the access of Level2 data.

The following requirement is now in place:
You can only use 1 program on 1 computer to access Level2 on MoneyAM using a single username.

This means that you are able to view as many Level2 windows using any one particular browser, or program, that you wish, however you will not be able to use both Firefox and Internet Explorer at the same time (the same goes for using Quote Tracker or TradeSeeker at the same time as viewing it using a web browser)

If you find you're being logged off of MoneyAM's Level2 with the message 'you've logged on from another location' then check the above and make sure you're not running any other programs at the same time before reporting this as a bug.

2 bloody hours. Rubbish, utter rubbish.

jamboree joe - 01 Oct 2007 09:53 - 6493 of 7315

......DBennett, deal more than once a day (75 per quarter) and it's free. as you can see here

Kyoto - 01 Oct 2007 09:57 - 6494 of 7315

DBennett09 - in my opinion it's dreadful. I've had it free for a long time because I trade a lot with them, but in my experience the software's quirky, slow and prone to errors. I load it up from time to time to see if it's as bad as I remember it and it always is. Haven't tried it since they rebranded it but there was another complaint about it on TMF the other day so it doesn't look as though anything's improved. Maybe it's OK if you're getting it for free but I wouldn't pay for it personally.

I wonder if Mervyn would spot the "moral hazard" here.

Unless Comstock and MoneyAM are financially penalised for outages,(i.e. Comstock don't get paid on any day where they are responsible for an outage and likewise we don't get charged by MoneyAM) there is little incentive for either of them to improve the situation.

There also appears to be a serious issue at MoneyAM in that when there are system issues prior to opening there often doesn't seem to be anyone available to deal with it, suggesting that MoneyAM starts up on autopilot, or is reliant on a single individual turning up on time.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 01 Oct 2007 10:06 - 6496 of 7315

All,

Comstock believe that they have isolated this issue and they believe it may be an issue with a fibre optic cable - they are working on this as we speak, and I will update you when I have more,

Ian

Many thanks, I'm looking for L2 where I can trade off the same screen. Currently using MAM L2 and trading with Selftrade. Bit of a pain when you're trying to get in and out of a stock quickly to find Selftrade has logged you out !! lol. Need to improve this efficiency!

Seymour Clearly - 01 Oct 2007 10:11 - 6498 of 7315

DB, I think you can change the logout time with Selftrade

Easy to see why it's dropped off so much over the last 18months

Kyoto - 01 Oct 2007 10:23 - 6500 of 7315

DB - yes you can change the logout time with Selftrade - I asked them to change it to a couple of hours a few years back and that's what I'm still on. Unfortunately I never managed the same trick with Barclays Stockbrokers (BSL), although it's fairly clear to me from the conversations I've had with them that their IT people are operating beyond their level of competence, which is probably the root cause of many of BSL's reliability problems. I think that the dog BARX platform is actually a rebranded Digital Look system having said though, so I don't know who's to blame for the reliability problems there.

jamboree joe - 01 Oct 2007 10:28 - 6501 of 7315

I believe the etrade product (trading platform, service, etc) is better than barclays - and probably cheaper too ???

DBennett09 - 01 Oct 2007 10:39 - 6502 of 7315

Ok, thank you all for your help, just mailed selftrade to get this sorted.
I do think MAM provides a good L2 service for the money although my
L2 screen seems to crash from time to time and I have to restart the
whole site again.

Kyoto - 01 Oct 2007 10:44 - 6503 of 7315

Etrade charge the same rates as Barclays for equities, although I think telephone dealing is different. Don't know about service but let's just say that recent news out of Etrade US has not inspired a lot of confidence - I'd rather stick with Barclays. I use Etrade's CFD platform (which is really a Saxobank system), but unfortunately it uses MoneyAM for Level 2 which makes it unusable sometimes. Apart from the MoneyAM component it's got a stockwatch feature of sorts so you can make a Level 1 list of anything they cover - and it's a Reuters feed which always seems to work.

It might be worth mentioning that the CMC CFD platform has 'price depth' windows which are aggregated Level 2 volumes - though they only cover the FTSE350. Potentially useful though and free with an account. GNI have L2 but I don't use them and I don't know what the requirements are to have that level of service.

zchavq8 - 01 Oct 2007 10:44 - 6504 of 7315

im afraid to admit it but ADVFN is hard to use after MAM!

dave leach - 01 Oct 2007 10:52 - 6505 of 7315

yipppppee

IanT(MoneyAM) - 01 Oct 2007 10:57 - 6506 of 7315

All,

The feed is now coming back on line. We are checking for any residual issues. Once again please accept my apologies for this.

cyberraja - 01 Oct 2007 10:58 - 6507 of 7315

stockwatch seems to be back but level 2 still down.

Toya - 01 Oct 2007 11:01 - 6508 of 7315

Eureka!!! The meter is running again - phew!

Chea - 01 Oct 2007 11:01 - 6509 of 7315

Agreed re L2 has not restarted. Closed browser and restarted but no joy with L2 data.

ValueMax - 01 Oct 2007 11:01 - 6510 of 7315

i think that stockwatch is still displaying old data on companies which have had no trades coming though since the feed came back online. (e.g. LNR)

... and it seems that volumes are calculated from the point that the feed returned, not from the start of the market. (e.g. NRK)

L2 is sort of working. You can see orders placed on the book after 10:53 but nothing before.
