THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

“You may be confused about why we are bombing Iraq and Syria. So we will make ourselves very clear.

We support the Iraqi government in the fight against ISIS.

We don’t like ISIS, but ISIS has been supported by Saudi Arabia, whom we do like, and Saudi Arabia is now supporting us in bombing ISIS.

We don’t like President Assad in Syria. We support the fight against him, but not ISIS, which is also fighting against him.

We don’t like Iran, but Iran supports the Iraqi government against ISIS

So some of our friends support our enemies and some of our enemies are our friends, and some of our enemies are fighting against our other enemies whom we want to lose, but we don’t want our enemies who are fighting our enemies to win.

If the people we want to defeat are defeated, they might be replaced by people we like even less.

And all this was started by us invading Iraq to drive out terrorists who weren’t there until we went to drive them out.

We hope you now understand”.

That just about sums it up.

Haystack - 01 Dec 2015 23:34 - 65723 of 81564

Apart from being substantially incorrect. But you would expect that from the Stop the War people, who rarely get anything right. You can see why Corbyn was their chairman.

Stan - 01 Dec 2015 23:42 - 65724 of 81564

More desperate propaganda from you.

It shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the relationships in the ME.

It would have been interesting to have concrete examples of Corbyn's theory that talking can solve these conflicts. To negotiate you have to know the aims and demands of the belligerents. What are those in reference to ISIL? Well they want control of everywhere from the Turkish border across Syria to the other side of Iraq. Hence; the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (the Levant being the old name for what is largely Syria now). That is a pretty difficult thing to negotiate. The closest situation would be Germany wanting control of Europe and then North Africa and Russia. Nevil Chamberlain tried the Corbyn approach and came back from chats with Mr Hitler with a piece of paper in which Hitler agreed to be a nice boy. Appeasement is the name of Corbyn's strategy.

Your just blind to the truth as usual.

cynic - 02 Dec 2015 08:00 - 65728 of 81564

it'll be great getting on the plane this afternoon and away from this roundabout

btw, of course politics is a game, even if a serious one .... just as are many if not most high court actions

jimmy b - 02 Dec 2015 08:03 - 65729 of 81564

Fred has finally driven you mad then cynic ?

cynic - 02 Dec 2015 08:08 - 65730 of 81564

no; indeed fred occasionally posts something sensible, as in much of 65704, even if i do not agree at all with his general political stance and belief in utopia - aka cloud-cuckoo-land

==========

btw, cameron's choice of words implying that anti-war voters were "terrorst symapthisers" were ill-advised at the very least, even if taken out of context (they probably were)

Fred1new - 02 Dec 2015 08:39 - 65732 of 81564

One of the problems with Syria seems to me is the "West" is trying to impose on Syria as they have done in Iraq is what they want and not what the Syrians and Iraqis want.

It would seem that the "West" and "Russia" are proposing to impose what will benefit themselves at the cost of the indigenous population.

I suggest the only problem is what do those who are still in Syria and Iraq really want.

-=-===-=

I feel that it would be reasonable for members of a government should be legally responsible for the actions they sanction and liable to pay compensation to the stakeholders they let down!

Might improve their decision making.

Where Cameron out of vanity wants to lead his flock!

cynic - 02 Dec 2015 08:56 - 65734 of 81564

trying to impose on syria?????
i don't think so!!!!!!

assad is one problem, and that is certainly syria based, but IS is a totally different proposition ...... and surely i do not need to explain why

VICTIM - 02 Dec 2015 08:57 - 65735 of 81564
