my computer only on Moneyam has started asking me if I want to display both secure and unsecure items without the usual ticking box to tell it not to ask me again, any idea how to get this feature off or get that brilliant tick box back?

Seymour Clearly - 13 Feb 2008 22:09 - 6583 of 11003

GDP Which browser are you using? Internet Exploder or Firefox?

Just log on as the user that you always used before.

Opt,

"For light work, rather than install openoffice, check out portableapps.com. "

Thanks. I have masses of space for software on my studio machine so I might as well install openoffice. I need PowerPoint at some time and I understand there is a clone of that included.

The problem with the installed version of Open Office is that some components are always loaded at startup which uses significant system resources even when you don't use it.

The PortableApps version (which includes the PP clone) is not installed so it will only be loaded when running. The downside is that it will always lag behind with the updates and (I assume) it will run slightly slower with fewer advanced features.

Opt,

Thanks. I see the logic. I certainly don't want to use system resources as my photographic work is heavy on them.

I'll go for the PortableApps version.

Thanks guys, still struggling with email, doesn't seem to work, I think I've changed my network connections by mistake; they are being incredibly helpful on the avast forum too. Ploughing my way through their suggestions!

G D Potts - 14 Feb 2008 16:13 - 6589 of 11003

If you need any more help, you will have to explain what measures you have already taken and their results.

Seymour Clearly - 14 Feb 2008 17:23 - 6591 of 11003

OK G D Potts, strange things these computers :-)

hawick - 14 Feb 2008 22:07 - 6592 of 11003

Hi All; I have used Hijack this, created a bit patch (I think it was called) removed a couple of 'offending' entries and run winpfind35u. My main problem now is that while i can dial up on my main computer I can't get on via the router. I think it is to do with the internet connections, so i will contact my IP provider tomorrow. In the past they have been fairly decent, we'll see.

On internet connections I have administrator, a blank on password but in domain name my username appears, this feels wrong somewhere!

You've been very kind all, thanks.

I am looking for a special Hosting facility for a Proxy website and due to the massive Band width involved most normal hosting companies wont touch them but i have been offered a special deal that i can use up to 200 Gig/mo of proxy bandwith for under $20/mo.As far as i can see this looks like a very good deal, any opinions on this one please.

Hi Guys

Help required on two points please.

1 I'm on mac OSW leopard and since leopard was installed the icon links (trades, charts level2 & News) on my moneyam stockwatch do not link, I raised a post that was picked up by moneyam support who said they would sort asap, that was back in December and i'm still waiting. My question is are there any other mac users on Leopard out there that are having the same problem and if so can we add some pressure to get this fixed.

2 Having taken the plunge after many years of trading long only I decided to open a CFD account only to find it doesn't support Mac. So, does anyone know of any CFD accounts that support Mac.

on a different subject it does seem strange seeing Crocodiles picture on the header, having not visited this site for many years, He's sadly missed. He was one of those posters that you would always read and very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that yo can get Windows emulation software to run on a Mac. That would be a good workaround although you would have to get hold of a copy of Win XP.

The other way would be to get an old headless computer running XP Pro and access it via remote desktop on your Mac.

Stan - 17 Feb 2008 13:24 - 6596 of 11003

barretec, Might "also" be worth you C&Pasting post 6594 on the dedicated Apple thread which can be accessed from the search on here that I set up last year.

barretec - 18 Feb 2008 20:31 - 6597 of 11003

Optimist, thanks for the reply however I was trying to avoid emulation but might seem the only option or of cause trade via the phone. I have no need for windows so it seems a bit OTT just to trade a few times a month.

Stan, I raised the mac issue on that thread and it was picked up by Moneyam support, I must say I'm concerned re their lack of urgency in addressing what seems a minor detail, in fact another posted even told them what the problem was. I'm sure if it occurred during Vista or XP installation it would have soon been rectified.

MightyMicro - 18 Feb 2008 21:07 - 6598 of 11003

barretec:

MoneyAM was developed to run on the Mac as well as Windows (or any other box with a standard browser and Java, such as Linux). So all should be well, but it seems that there has been a change to Safari of late that caused some minor problems.

As for your CFD provider problems, I find myself speechless at the number of brain-dead developers that are let loose on financial site software. Internet Explorer is such a heap of cr@p that, once you've got something to work with it, it can be the devil's own job to get it to work on standards-compliant browsers. Ask any web developer that isn't married to Bill Gates . . .

I can't speak for MoneyAM, but I understand that they've had a number of difficult issues to deal with of late which seem to be the problems of success. I happen to know that their systems have had to be upsized to deal with much greater loads during all this market volatility. I'm sure they will get to your issue -- after all, the number of Mac users is going up!

Regards

MM
