Meridian Petroleum PLC (MRP)

espaceman - 04 Apr 2006 07:18

News you've all been waiting for ...

Meridian Petroleum PLC
04 April 2006

MERIDIAN PETROLEUM PLC
('Meridian' or 'the Company')

VICTORY 1-21 SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

Meridian, the oil & gas exploration and production company with key assets in
the USA and Australia today announced that the Victory 1-21 production well (10%
WI) has been successfully deepened in order to further penetrate a Niagaran
reef.

Using a coiled tubing unit and conventional work over rig, Total Depth was
reached at 4,394 feet and gas communication was made between 4,161 feet and
4,192 feet, an increase of approximately 31 feet in net pay. The well was
treated with acid to stimulate flow and is currently being swabbed to remove
remaining acid from the well bore following which the well will be put back on
line this week. It is anticipated that enhanced production rates will be gained
from the additional pay sections in the reservoir.

Anthony Mason, Chief Executive of Meridian said:

'The successful deepening of Victory 1-21 is good news for Meridian. The well
will be back on line this week, following which Meridian will resume receiving
income from Victory 1-21. We are now looking forward to the imminent completion
on Calvin 36.'

Don Caldwell, a certified petroleum geologist, is the Company's Qualified Person
and has reviewed the information in this announcement.

straws- looking better here. something leaked?.
are you in goo?.

PapalPower - 11 Oct 2006 10:30 - 67 of 741

Shorts closing I think.

Strawbs - 11 Oct 2006 10:34 - 68 of 741

I doubt if anything has leaked. But when the price moves people inevitably think something has. The initial move was probably ahead of Calvin, possible joint venture announcements and some chart technicals (MACD crossing, RSI at/above 50, price above 20 and 50 day MA). The current moves are probably short closing and people chasing the price. All fairly positive though.

I don't hold goo.

In my opinion, do your own research etc.

Well, news is due soon :

An extract of the article from http://www.growthcompany.co.uk/

For the full article you'll have to go to the web site......... :)

06/09/2006

Meridian Petroleum expects first production next month from its 158 billion cubic feet Calvin gas field in Louisiana.

Tony Mason, chief executive of USA and Australia-focused Meridian, says first production from Calvin 36 No 1 well is likely next month, followed by Milford 36. Arguing that a legal deal over aboriginal native title to the AIM-quoted company's massive South Australian gas project is very close, Mason says the company now sits on more than one trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas, with another 50 billion likely to be added to Calvin in October.

This portfolio includes a coal-bed methane project at Warrior Basin in Alabama, which holds an estimated 500 billion cubic feet of gas. Mason says a pilot project should be producing from Warrior in the first quarter of 2007.

He emphasises that RAB Capital-backed Meridian, which is already producing from its Victory 12 well, has had all is estimates independently verified and argues the company's projects would be viable at oil and gas prices well below today's. Mason claims canny stake buying should ensure handsome returns when the assets start producing....................................

Strawbs - 11 Oct 2006 13:24 - 70 of 741

One of many "positive" articles I've seen over the last few months. I still think Calvin is the key. If production starts ahead of the US winter, that should give some solid income to fund drilling programs on assets acquired over the summer.

DYOR, IMHO etc.

Strawbs,

What income do you expect MRP to derive from Calvin PA?

Strawbs - 11 Oct 2006 13:53 - 72 of 741

Andy,

I don't have any figures (someone has probably done the calculations), I was thinking more generally. From memory Calvin was supposed to be online last winter, although I can't remember if that was ever stated by the company, or was just BB conjecture. Given that small O&G companies burn lots of money drilling and (if successfull) converting assets into production, it's important to get those assets online as soon as possible to recoup costs and eventually move into profit on the well. The ideal time to sell gas at a premium is during the winter, hence the importance of hitting the October timeline.

In my opinion anyway....

Andy - 11 Oct 2006 14:13 - 73 of 741

Strawbs,

Thanks for your honest reply, i have read a couple of guesstimates re the possible production rate, and the range was quite wide, yet nobody seems to be able to put any hard figures down re possible income levels.

I guess the wait will be over soon, they must be close to finally announcing a production start, and today's price rise possibly indicates that, although MRP is being ramped on ADVFN, so we will have to wait and see.

Strawbs - 11 Oct 2006 14:29 - 74 of 741

Andy,

Certainly everything I've seen recently (tips, articles etc.) indicates production soon, but we've been dissappointed before. I doubt the recent price rise has anything to do with any "insider knowledge". I suspect there's some "informed money" being invested, by which I mean people who know about the technicals at work here e.g. potential for shorting recovery, market expectations regarding production, asset valuation, etc. I suspect any announcement will be a few weeks away. The last I read indicated late October, and they'll probably want some time to check everything is flowing properly before making an announcement. I've found that news announcements often come sometime after they're expected, or totally out of the blue.

I've no doubt the rampers will be having a field day. Sadly a fact of BB life. Personally I never invest based on BB information, unless I can confirm it independantly elsewhere.

Meridian Petroleum PLC 11 October 2006

(AIM: MRP)

MERIDIAN PETROLEUM PLC
('Meridian' or 'the Company')

Statement re price movement

Meridian Petroleum Plc, the gas and oil production and exploration company with
assets in the US and Australia, notes the recent movement in its share price.
The Board takes the opportunity to update shareholders as follows:

Australia, Native Title for the Dolores Prospect. As noted in the interim
results announcement, the Company is working diligently with our Australian
Solicitors in Adelaide to finalise the above matter. The agreement between
Meridian and the Indigenous people is now with the South Australian Government
for final approval which is anticipated shortly.

Calvin Field; An agreement in principle has been reached with a substantial
regional E & P Company and Meridian is at present working with our Louisiana
counsel to finalise a legal structure for a joint venture. The outline terms
would be a 50-50 joint venture on both the shallow and deep rights in the
acreage owned by Meridian in the Calvin Field to include the Lower Cotton Valley
Troy Lime formation. A detailed field development study would be the likely
starting point and the plan would be to develop the field in a logical cost
effective manner, exploiting all zones as appropriate. Initial work would take
place this year. At this point there is no legally binding agreement for any of
the parties to progress this early stage agreement.

Coal Bed Methane, Warrior Basin; The Company has completed the leasing of an
initial pilot project acreage of some 4,000 acres. Meridian remains in detailed
discussions with a major land owner and once it has completed satisfactory
geological due diligence, expected to be in the next 8 weeks, the Company will
enter into negotiations to define a joint venture structure for the production
of CBM.

As progress continues in developing its projects, Meridian is also looking into
sources of future financing of this expansion and has commenced early stage
discussions in this regard. A further announcement will be made in due course.

Andy - 11 Oct 2006 17:49 - 78 of 741

Meastro,

No way IMO!

Strawbs - 11 Oct 2006 20:07 - 79 of 741

Think I'd have to agree with Andy. 30p seems pretty unlikely to me. IMO.

Andy - 11 Oct 2006 20:39 - 80 of 741

Strawbs,

MRP has risen 50% on this news already, so the upside may be liited form here in the short term IMO.

A plane hitting a building in NY (light aircraft) may unsettle the markets too IMO, depending upon whether it's credited to terrorists or not of course.

maestro - 11 Oct 2006 22:07 - 81 of 741

you guys don't know MRP...WHEN ITS ON A ROLL THERE S NO STOPPING IT..THE NEWS TODAY IS VERY SIGNIFICANT...DOLERES,CALVIN JOINT VENTURE WILL SEND THIS TO 30P TOMORO...TRUST ME

Andy - 12 Oct 2006 08:19 - 82 of 741

maestro,

The proce is currently DOWN 2.5p!

I actually thought the RNS was poor, they have given away HALF of their asset in order to JV, and there was no mention of Calvin or any update on the other wells, although they have covered that in previous RNS.

Quite clever to announce after hours, MMs ran the price up during the afternoon as the word leaked, and PI's piled in with rampers quoting "shorters closing", and away it went.

Seen it many times before on the boards, and

cynic - 12 Oct 2006 08:23 - 83 of 741

don't tell me maestro made yet another wrong call!!

Strawbs - 12 Oct 2006 08:26 - 84 of 741

Seems to be going back up now. Market makers probably dropped the price to get some stock. Don't think the RNS told us much, but MRP seems undervalued to me, especially with all the assets they hold. In my opinion anyway.

Strawbs.
