The main activity of Biofuels is the large scale production and exploitation of biodiesel and glycerine following the construction and commissioning of the initial plant.

Biodiesel is produced from vegetable oils and, as an environmentally friendly product, can make a significant contribution towards reducing green house gases and meeting Kyoto targets.

Jimmy, although knowing something sooner rather than later would put us out of our misery I think for it to have any sort of positive outcome for us, it might take a while to negotiate. (By positive, I mean that we get some of our investment back, there is no way that this can open anything other than much lower, if it ever comes back from suspension at all)

Biofuels' suspension came as "something of a shock," says Ambrian
Partners. "We await the reasons why the company has suddenly found itself without cash having raised a further 30.6m only a few months ago."
Highlights the "disastrous" hedging arrangement which was put in place by the previous management team. "At this point, maybe questions need to be asked about the role of the bankers who set up the hedging arrangements for the company in the first place."
All in all, reckons this is a sorry mess and even if the company finds the funds to continue, "the shares are probably best avoided until the bio-diesel industry in the UK has proved itself." Has sell rating.

Great advice, unfortunately we have no chance of selling and might never have!

The WORLD'S LARGEST biofuel plant being built on Teesside may not be completed until spring next year, concerned workers said today.

Billingham-based Biofuels Corporation is building the 250,000-tonne a year biodiesel facility at Seal Sands.

Shares in the company were suspended last week after it went into cash crisis talks with its backers.

The company, which has seen costs rise from 21m to 28m, has already put back the date for the start of production several times after turf was cut last November

In its last update it said it would be in production by the end of 2005 but employees say the company seemed unlikely to meet the deadline.

A source said: "It doesn't realistically look like being up and running by February or March at the earliest."

Thanks for that Jimmy, just checking in for the first time today (I've been trying to ignore my portfollio as much of it is tied up in BFC). That is very dissapointing news, will the banks want to keep bailing them out? The managment have really let us down with all there lies on completion dates, I don't know what to say at the moment as this makes me so angry. I haven't checked out what the thoughts are over the road, but I don't think I'll bother 'till tomorrow, I want to forget about this mess tonight!

I think you're right there Jimmy.
If the news story is correct it is just about the worse news possible. I always kept clinging to the hope that this plant would be producing by the end of december and that had to work in its favour for any funding issues. Now that appears not be the case, who will give them money when the deadline keeps getting put back and back, will it ever work at all?
However is there any reason to believe this journalists' knowledge is any better than the one saying Toscafield would put up more money at 80p a share?
As always the company leaves shareholders in the dark yet again.
I hadn't realised when I put so much money in this share how much of a gamble it was, I think I might well have ended up better off if I'd put it all into lottery tickets instead!

Is Blair clever enough to use the opportunity. He failed to help British Energy when it was cheap.... Tax payers are now paying the full price for it.

BGY was 3.5p at the time its shareholders were begging the government to help.

Frampton you may have a point about journalists ,they are looking for a story ,what ever it is .. However i tend to believe that the plant will be delayed and that's why they are in further talks . Do the bank bail them out (again) or as they are saying over on the other side ,try to steal it . You may think i'm an optimist but i'm not sure we have lost all, i'm 50 - 50 ..

I agree Jimmy, the plant being delayed seems the most likely reason for more funds being needed, just clutching at straws here. I hope you are right to be optimistic, I don't know what to believe. I'm trying to get used to the idea I have lost everything, then if we do get anything back, however small, it will seem like a bonus!
