rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.
for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ
for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Looks like shorts have it today, some big shorters are making millions. Only thousands for me.
I used to hate shorting, and shorters but I have made more this year shorting than the last five years investing.

There is no particular bad news on the immediate horizon that I can see in the U.S. , so wouldn't be surprised if they buck the trend on tuesday and have a good day, hopefully pulling us up with them.

everyone will be very nervous indeed ahead BO's speech on thursday, and perhaps more importantly, the jobless numbers on friday, which i'ld guess will be dire yet again

I'm guessing the Germans haven't rocked the boat, but I can't find any updates as yet.
Germany decision of legality of bailouts.
On edit :- German constitutional court rejects lawsuits aimed at blocking German participation in eurozone bailouts

thoroughly agree that is hopelessly over-valued, but have thought that for years ..... nevertheless, it still refuses to fall, so it's a fairly brave call
