Scrooge Corbyn the Grinch

Jeremy Corbyn will not release a Christmas message this year, Labour has confirmed.

The Labour leader has been accused of "cancelling Christmas" by a Conservative MP after deciding to break with tradition and ditch the festive address.

Ed Miliband gave a Christmas Eve message in both 2013 and 2014, last year paying tribute to volunteers who gave up their time to serve local communities.

David Cameron is expected to give his usual address on Christmas Eve, while Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron put his Christmas message out on Facebook on Tuesday.

In it, he celebrated those who have given their time to help refugees and homeless people and said: "This Christmas, I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who is working to transform the lives of those with no safe place to call home."

Andrew Bridgen, a Conservative MP, told The Daily Telegraph: "This is the new politics - Corbyn cancels Christmas.

"It is just a hint of what the British people would have to look forward to under a Corbyn-led Government."

It comes at the end of a year which has seen British troops involved in action overseas, terror attacks and a refugee crisis.

While he may have opted not to issue a Christmas message, Mr Corbyn, who put out an Eid message in September, did produce an official Christmas card – a stock image of a bicycle in the snow with the message Merry Christmas.

I think this is enough to see where Corby is coming from.
