Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

Today's Brexit problems:

Donald Tusk today warned Theresa May she must strike a deal on the Brexit divorce bill, migrant rights, business rules and the Irish border before trade talks can start.

The EU Council President made a small concession to Mrs May by indicating he would allow some talks to run side by side before the divorce is finalised - potentially as soon as this autumn.

And Tusk's Article 50 plan's small print for the UK?

Well, Spain has been handed the power to exclude Gibraltar from the final Brexit deal.

This effectively hands Madrid a veto over the UK's Brexit deal as May could be forced to leave the outpost in the wilderness or quit Brussels with no deal at all.

Now we aren't going to stand for losing this key strategic military outpost or for dumping Gibraltar's citizen's out of UK jurisdiction into that of Spain.

Hmmm? Sorry! But I can't see us getting a Brexit EU deal so my £5 says we are going to put a lot of effort into things and then get no deal at all right at the end.

That is what I have thought all along Exec.

We are just going to be messed about with ridiculous demands and conditions and if anything is agreed some province in Belgium will end up vetoing it.

We have to give it a go though.

On my reckoning the SNP should have a representative on the panel no more than once every 4 weeks whereas there seems to be one at least two weeks out of every three.

Remember more people voted for UKIP than the SNP.

both sides have an awful lot to lose ...... if too soft a deal from europe, then it opens the door for other countries to opt out ...... be intransigent, then everyone loses and heavily

Even for the Graun, that's a very one sided article Fred. And wrong as well, but you'll never see it.

The sums talked about are complete and utter rubbish !.....in fact as negotiations for trade and such have only just begun....Europe needs us as much as we need them for trade...etc.....what ?...all contacts communications....trade deals just come to a halt because we exit the EU...nonsense....the UK is just not prepared to agree to endless dodgy deals ......what is it 30 countries and we have one vote....it's nuts....Brexit is by far the best solution even if at first it might be difficult and euro leaders will want to make it feel that way.....ask French and German car manufacturers whether they want to continue exporting cars to the UK ...are they going to say no...?...of course not...then they will have to accept our exports as well...much depends on the UK team for negotiations....it's like the Olympic bid all over again.....

One positive outcome might be , we get kicked out of the Eurovision song contest.

Actually, the €uroballs song contest is a good example of what awaits us if we allow Brussels to lead...never ending arguments amongst the 27, and outvoted at every turn by the self interested subsidy junkies (the majority)

A clear timetable is needed, and not the two years effort.

to my initial considerable surprise, i find that the guardian frequently has very interesting articles - i get it free and daily through my email

for sure there are articles by the likes of polly toynbee which i avoid, but then so would i any by say nigel farage ...... their stance is just totally predictable
however, there are also articles that are well-argued and balanced, and it is then up to the reader whether or not he accepts the conclusion reached - and that is if there is even a specific in that respect

I think at this stage it's difficult to work out any outcome , firstly they are saying to anyone if you want to leave this is the sort of sh*t you will have to go through so think hard , and anyhow if it suits Merkel it suits the EU , the odd blip maybe . just look at Germany slowly pushing into UK business .

For a group that tries to make out that it has kept the peace in Europe, it is a deliberate provocation to include Gibralter in the leaving negotiations. No doubt put in by Spain's request but it shows the childish mentality of the EU. Time to anchor a Trident submarine in Gibralter harbour and open the missile hatches. Just to ventilate the boat of course.
Trying to negotiate with that lot is an exercise in futility. Just wait until fishing rights come up. Theresa May should simply say that our default position is to leave the EU and good riddance. If the EU would like to make offers, they will be considered but nothing is agreed until everything is agreed. But after 2 years we are gone. Period.
