Are you a net junkie?

If you answer 'yes' to five or more of these questions, you may have an internet addiction.

Do you feel preoccupied with the internet? (Think about your online activity or anticipate your next online session.)

Do you need increasing amounts of time on the net in order to achieve satisfaction?

Have you repeatedly made unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back or stop internet use?

Do you feel restless, moody, depressed, or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop internet use?

Do you stay online longer than originally intended?

Have you jeopardised or risked the loss of a significant relationship, job, educational or career opportunity because of the internet?

Have you lied to family members, a therapist or others to conceal the extent of your involvement with the internet?

Do you use it to escape from problems (eg, feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety, depression)?

And the prognosis?

Apparently, it's not all that good..... :-(

I think you were asking about webcams and IP cameras? Maplin, the electronics specialist have a wide range of this kind of stuff and have just kicked off with their Sale. You might find something you like with them.

Could somebody tell me please how to change my default web browser from IE to Opera? I use XP Pro.

If I click a link within an Outlook email, it opens a copy of IE. I would like the link to open within a new tab in Opera.

ExecLine - 27 Mar 2008 15:39 - 6686 of 11003

Start

All Programs

Set Program Access and Defaults

hilary - 28 Mar 2008 08:05 - 6687 of 11003

Thanks, Doc, that was my initial thought too.

I seem to have some sort of conflict somewhere though, as I keep getting a Visual C++ Runtime Error when I try to store the changed settings.

Ho Humm.

Optimist - 28 Mar 2008 08:52 - 6688 of 11003

Hilary

I don't use Opera so ca't offer any specific help but in the Firefox options menu there is a button to check (and set) whether it is the default browser. Has Opera got a similar feature?

hilary - 28 Mar 2008 09:04 - 6689 of 11003

If it has, Opti, I really can't see it for looking. I've also looked in Outlook and can't seem to find anything there either.

I know that MM is an Opera fan. I was hoping that he might have a solution.

hilary - 28 Mar 2008 09:44 - 6691 of 11003

Bingo, Doc, I've got it to work. Thanks.

The latest version of Opera has a slightly different menu tree to that suggested within your link, but I've managed to suss it out anyway.

Wi-Fi problems,we use 2 laptops connected to a access point up stairs and has worked great for a couple of years but yesterday we bought a Lexmark wi-fi printer but i can get either the laptops talking to the net or just the printer but cannot get both to talk at the same time.

The wife uses the laptop mainly but i cannot fathom out how to keep the laptop still connected to the net and also be able to use her new printer.

Any help or suggestions on this one please.

Mega........

CrowdedHouse - 30 Mar 2008 16:34 - 6694 of 11003

What model Lexmark printer?

Kayak - 30 Mar 2008 16:45 - 6695 of 11003

Mega, your printer appears to be acting as an access point, i.e. taking connections from individual computers in the same way as a wireless router would. There is bound to be an option to disable that and have the printer behaving as a computer connecting to your existing access point.

CrowdedHouse printer X4550

Kayak, that is what i am thinking, will try and have a look later, trouble is OH thinks these things are broken as it should be up and running straight out of the Box.

But i guess most woman are like that anyway, they all want it done yesterday, little do the realise men aint like that :-)

Thanks for your help folks !!!

Mega....

Kayak - 30 Mar 2008 17:30 - 6697 of 11003

You need to select 'infrastructure' mode in the wireless settings, Mega.

I know that MM is an Opera fan. Indeed, Wagner. As to the browser, sorry Hil, only just seen your post and you seem to be sorted now.

As to Execline's request to see your legs, shall you oblige or shall I (but with your legs)?

kernow - 31 Mar 2008 13:22 - 6700 of 11003

I bet this is a really simple question and I'll kick myself for not knowing how but....how do I know what my data usage figures are? I'm looking at broadband suppliers via usb modem for when I'm in Spain and want to know how much data per month I might need.
TIA

Optimist - 31 Mar 2008 13:40 - 6701 of 11003

Depends on your setup.

If you have a firewall/router then it may well have the total bytes received/tramsmited availible on the status page though it will probably reset the data whenever the ADSL connectio is reset (which may not be very often).

The same info is availible on each computer on the etwork connections status window. This is also reset every time the connection comes up and will also include computer to computer traffic on your LAN.

It may be that your ISP can tell you how much your using, or you could Google for a network monitoring program.
