Israeli Gaza conflict?????? (GAZA)

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2009 19:21

Will this increase or decrease the likelihood of terrorist actions in America, Europe and the rest of the world?

If you were a member of a family murdered in this conflict, would you be seeking revenge?

Should Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, be tried for war crimes if or when this conflict comes to an end?

What will the price of oil be in 4 weeks time?

I like to listen to the oratory of George Galloway and he does seem to have a fairly thorough and exceedingly knowledgeable take on things. However, he does seem to be blatantly biased in certain directions and fairly warped with his tendencies. As such, I feel he has wasted his talents.

My favourite stuff of his occurred when he went over to the USA to give testimony, defend himself against the accusation of receiving benefits form the sale of Sadam's oil and proceeded to wipe the floor with the US Senate:

Perhaps someone more into these things than me, can explain why he didn't make it to be Prime Minister? I wonder if he is actually dishonest or has a warped morality?

Gausie - 03 Sep 2014 10:22 - 6793 of 6906

Bob - he got hammered a few years back by Hitchens on the subject of the 2nd Iraq war - one of he best debates I've ever seen. Neither of them pulled any punches.

2005 debate

Exec,

George!

Because he didn't have enough of the party with him and his many of his views were as unpopular to the labour party as the con party.

He did mug up his facts though and certainly was an interesting brawler!

Clashes erupt in Arab sector, as community remains divided on support of ISIS and its cruel methods.
The Islamic State has surged in popularity and won over supporters worldwide – even in Israel.

“Any person who bad-mouths the Islamic State is not a Muslim,” wrote a Facebook users, one of the many who have not hesitated to express their support in the past three days, when the Defense Ministry announced that ISIS was an “illegal organization.”

The Arab sector in Israel has been inundated with conversations and confrontations over the topic not only online, but also in cafés and mosques.

Last week an Imam praised the terror group during Friday prayers at a northern Israel mosque: “ISIS is on the right path.”

Haystack - Maybe it was a little too subtle for you.

Haystack - 18 Sep 2014 09:27 - 6799 of 6906

Not a topic for subtlety

Gausie - 19 Sep 2014 09:14 - 6800 of 6906

You do take yourself very seriously, don't you?

Haystack - 19 Sep 2014 09:25 - 6801 of 6906

Only on some things. You could never be accused of taking anything seriously. That is not a bad thing though.

Gausie - 22 Sep 2014 14:39 - 6802 of 6906

Lol - it's true that I don't take you quite as seriously as you do,

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/editorials/parliament-should-recognise-palestinian-statehood-9786056.html

Next Monday the House of Commons will hold an unprecedented vote on a motion to recognise a Palestinian state. The vote is non-binding on the Government, and thus will have scant impact on the effectively defunct Middle East peace process, or on Britain’s stance at the United Nations.

As a permanent member of the Security Council, Britain has long kept its head below the parapet on the issue, abstaining the last time the question arose at the UN, in November 2012 when the General Assembly voted by a resounding 138 to 9 to elevate the Palestinians to non-member observer status. This time though Parliament should go further and back recognition of statehood. What hopes remain of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, rightly seen as the only long-term answer, demand no less – as does simple justice.

worth reading the whole of this article which i just came across on Yahoo - editor's picks......

Crime-fighting London Jews claim model for Muslim cooperation
The work of the 25-strong "Shomrim" patrol in London has caught the eye of US Secretary of State John Kerry, who praised the neighbourhood patrol group's "remarkable courage"

Members of the Haredi Jewish community in Stamford Hill formed the group -- named after the Yiddish word for guards -- in 2008 in response to high crime levels

The unusual sight of crime-fighting Orthodox Jews pounding the streets of a tough London neighbourhood after dark has captured the attention of grateful locals, but their ongoing protection of local Muslims has seen their profile go global.

Haystack - 14 Oct 2014 17:34 - 6805 of 6906

Interesting article. I used to live in Stamford Hill just a few years ago. I also went to school there many years ago. I wouldn't call it a tough neighbourhood. It is pretty sleepy. There are almost no pubs or restaurants as Orthodox Jews don't eat out at all. The areas bordering Stamford Hill are far tougher, such as Clapton , Tottenham and Stoke Newington.

it may well be that they were not patrolling stamford hill, but effective and appreciated it certainly seems to be

http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Sweden-set-to-officially-recognize-Palestinian-state-380242

Sweden became the first major European country to make the official recognition of the state.

Sweden's center-left government officially recognized the state of Palestine on Thursday, becoming the first major European country to do so.

Prime Minister Stefan Lofven told parliament in his inaugural address in October that his Social Democrat government would deliver on a manifesto promise to recognize a Palestinian state, drawing criticism from Israel and the United States.

"Today's recognition is a contribution to a better future for a region that has for too long been characterized by frozen negotiations, destruction and frustration," Wallstrom wrote in the daily Dagens Nyheter.

"Some will state this decision comes too soon. I am afraid, rather, that it is too late."

Palestinians seek statehood in the West Bank and the blockaded Gaza Strip, with east Jerusalem as their capital. They have sought to sidestep stalled peace talks by lobbying foreign powers to recognize their sovereignty claim.

Wallstrom said Sweden's move aimed at supporting moderate Palestinians and making their status more equal with that of Israel in peace negotiations, as well as giving hope to young people on both sides.

The UN General Assembly approved the de facto recognition of the state of Palestine in 2012, but the European Union and most EU countries have yet to give official recognition.

"EU members confirmed in 2009 their readiness to recognize the state of Palestine when it was appropriate," Wallstrom said.

"We are now ready to take the lead. We hope this can show the way for others."

Wallstrom said despite the fact that Palestinian authorities did not have full control of their land and the country did not have fixed borders, Palestine fulfilled the criteria in international law for recognition.

"Together with other European countries, as well as the United States and other regional and international organizations, the government will now work to support renewed negotiations to reach a final agreement," Wallstrom said.

i am told the following is a most interesting read ......

Avi Shlaim's The Iron Wall: Israel and the Arab World is a fresh and informed account of the modern world's most intractable conflict.

In the 1920s, hard-line Zionists developed the doctrine of the 'Iron Wall': negotiations with the Arabs must always be from a position of military strength, and only when sufficiently strong Israel would be able to make peace with her Arab neighbours.

This doctrine, argues Avi Shlaim, became central to Israeli policy; dissenters were marginalized and many opportunities to reconcile with Palestinian Arabs were lost. Drawing on a great deal of new material and interviews with many key participants, Shlaim places Israel's political and military actions under and uncompromising lens.
