My Mum had 2 hip operations in France, (she was resident there but did not have French nationality ), but the French system paid for it all and the operations were perfect !....no after problems at all.....so the NHS health system will work overseas in some countries...the thing is that all European health ministers should make sure that the system works in the whole of the EU !.....but will they ?....

however, it is undisputed (except perhaps by you) that the uk benefit system is very generous, so there is no doubt that it is at least one (major?) reason why uk is the destination of choice for migrants of all sorts
i confess i'm not convinced that withdrawing benefits for 4 years or whatever would make a significant difference, though it might if it included refusing access to NHS and housing

68108 - i read that too .... confess i was amazed it was so little, so i wonder which bits are omitted? ....... for sure it's not the true picture - eg free nhs treatment? obligation of councils to find/supply housing in certain circumstances?
