Dog running loose on motorway deliberately run over and killed by police

A dog that was running loose on a motorway was deliberately run down and killed by traffic police, North Wales Police have confirmed.
In a statement issued on their website the force said that the dog had been running loose on the A55 at varying locations between the Llanfairfechan roundabout and the Conwy tunnel.
Despite attempts by the Roads Policing Unit to catch the dog, it continued to run in and out of swerving traffic that was travelling in excess of 70mph on an unlit carriageway.
The incident – which had "potential for a serious collision" happened during the early hours of Monday.
An officer who had tried to take hold of the dog was bitten.

Chief Inspector Darren Wareing said that several calls were received by the North Wales Police control room shortly after 3am and the decision to take action was not taken "lightly".
He said: "The only safe option was to run the dog over at sufficient speed to ensure that it was destroyed and would not suffer. Other methods of destruction were considered, but were ruled out on the grounds of public safety."
Mr Wareing said that several attempts were made to catch the dog.

"One car and an HGV had to swerve to avoid the dog whilst the officers remained on foot in the carriageway. The potential for a serious collision was present throughout, and in the circumstances there was no alternative way that officers could contain the dog and minimise risks to motorists."


He added: "Fast roads such as the A55 present inherent risks, and to have vehicles including an HGV having to swerve in the dark was deemed unacceptable as the officers witnessed a number of near misses, and were highly concerned about the potential aftermath of a high-speed collision.
"Both officers have their own dogs and did not take this decision lightly. Due to the seriousness of the incident it needed bringing to a conclusion quickly for the safety of all concerned."

Labour’s row over Trident has erupted again after Jeremy Corbyn and his deputy deputy Tom Watson underlined their deep split over the nuclear deterrent.

Mr Watson today revealed that he had told David Cameron personally that he would back the Tory Government in any Commons vote to renew the weapons system, with the construction of four new ‘Successor’ submarines.

But his warning came as it emerged that Mr Corbyn would address a huge CND rally this Saturday, a move that infuriated Labour MPs who point out current party policy is to back the £41bn plan to upgrade the deterrent.

Stan - I can't believe we're having this conversation. Are you really that thick? Even if any of the RSPCA guys were awake and ten minutes away, how long would it take with a dog running amok on an unlit road, causing cars and lorries to swerve out of the way before there were tears? I'm afraid certain police forces over the years have been seen to be a law unto themselves and nothing more then a bunch of Crony ridden crooks covering up for some of their mates own lazy, incompetence and corrupt conduct.

Only yesterday we had the despicable case of what has been going on in Rochdale (along with some other services) with the child abuse scandal, and i'm sure I don't need to you about the Polices roll in the Hillsborough Disaster as that is still being covered up all these years later.

The man was hit by a car at Stockley Road roundabout Google Streetview

A man has died after being hit by a car as he ran into the road to catch his dog, police said.

The 35-year-old was struck by a silver Peugeot 307 at 10.40pm on Friday February 19.

He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene on Stockley Road roundabout in West Drayon, west London.

A post-mortem examination has yet to be completed and the man's next of kin has been informed, although he is yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the Peugeot has not been arrested and is helping the Metropolitan Police, which has appealed for witnesses.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Pidgeon, leading the investigation, said: "We understand the deceased was trying to catch his dog, described as a German Shepherd or Alsatian, in the moments prior to the collision. As a result of this the deceased ended up in the road where he was struck by the car.
