Queen and Country (BABE)

Sponsor Your Queen and Country

BABE Rally 2007 - From BA (Big Apple) to BE (Big Easy), a total drive of 1500 miles in four days on the east coast of the USA, in a banger yank tank that has to cost less than $250.

In a moment of madness, Martini and Gausie have entered a team - "Queen and Country", the entry has been accepted, and so long as we can get all of the prelims in place, at the end of May we'll be setting off from New York with "New Orleans or bust" ringing loudly in our ears.

In case you're wondering, we'll start with Martini as Queen (Gausie will be Cunt-ry) and we'll swap over every now and again.

We'll be raising money for Save The Children, and hopefully, in due course, some of you guys will dig deep.

We're planning on getting a car in late April and flying out a week early to prepare it for the journey - which is at the end of May.

We'll be looking for a car with acres and acres of metal and rust, a decent set of brakes, an engine and gearbox that stands a chance of getting us 1500 miles, and a very loud stereo. We've decided that an open top is mandatory - even if we have to take a cutter to a saloon. A custom paintjob is planned, given sufficient time.

hi Martin & Bernie, or may I call you Mike and Bernie - what a great idea this is. Put me down for 100.00. Where should I send it?

Good luck on the trip

Just working out how to get to New York for the start of the rally - so I went to google maps to ask for directions.

Google directions for London to NY

To tell you the truth, step 37 on the route makes me a teensy bit nervous.

I suggest you two get "booted and suited"!! ;-))

Elwood: It's a 1500 miles to New Orleans. We got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
Jake: Hit it!

Phil

Thank you!

Martini and I are continuing to hatch plans, although for some strange reason they seem at the moment to focus on music selection, the rules of croquet, the correct angle to wear a straw boater, and whether American Tea will be of requisite quality.

I guess at some stage we'll have to start looking for a car!

Martini - 23 Apr 2007 08:41 - 78 of 269

Many thanks Phil.

Gausie I see Andy Moore came good for us as well!

Not much use getting a car yet what the heck would we do with it?

Remember "Ne'er cast a car when May so far"

Gausie - 23 Apr 2007 09:17 - 79 of 269

Martini - lol - I see Andy Moore also sponsored kajman on his London marathon. Nice of him to spunk up.

Is insurance going to be feasible without a social security number/permanent US address etc.?

Big Al - 23 Apr 2007 23:51 - 81 of 269

............... or a $250 motor, guv? ;-))

Martini - 28 Apr 2007 16:33 - 82 of 269

Kayak
Well it looks like we may have to get some help fronm a USA resident as Insurance is looking to be the biggest problem.

Big Al - 30 Apr 2007 18:02 - 83 of 269

Probably more expensive than the motor. ;-0

Seymour Clearly - 30 Apr 2007 22:05 - 84 of 269

Talking of expensive motors, I was passed by this motor on Saturday on my way to work. And no, it's not me!!

Ok fingers crossed we have a USA local willing to put a car on his insurance for us. Now that I call a great jesture for people he has never met. So onwards a car next.

DocProc - 03 May 2007 09:36 - 86 of 269

That doesn't sound to be a very bright idea. Supposing you have a big and seriously injuring crash? After all, it is a $250 old banger you are driving.

There are other ways of doing this, surely?

Mind you, they say, "There's a sucker born every minute." So why not take advantage of one if you are that way inclined?

Martini - 03 May 2007 11:13 - 87 of 269

The guy will have title to the car and just put us on as drivers. He is a regular on this event so knows what he is doing. He has checked with his insurance and they have said ok.

Now Doc why do you go round picking fights like this you are a silly boy I will ignore the inferences that we are being dishonourable and put it down to your usual crass abilities to relate to people.

Please go away and try another thread.

DocProc - 03 May 2007 12:00 - 88 of 269

Obviously, there is much more to all this than you guys are telling us on here.

Having someone else owning the car for you, just being one of them. It not being a $250 old banger, obviously another.
