Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Reminds me of:
"The First World War, boys
It came and it went
The reason for fighting
I never did get
But I learned to accept it
Accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead
When God's on your side.
When the Second World War
Came to an end
We forgave the Germans
And then we were friends
Though they murdered six million
In the ovens they fried
The Germans now too
Have God on their side.
I've learned to hate Russians
All through my whole life
If another war comes
It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
To run and to hide
And accept it all bravely
With God on my side."

- yes - I saw the Saudi programme last night and lived in Saudi for two years.
I even had problems with my camera and was taken to a prison in Riyad by the religious police, but fortunately the westernized traffic police got me out, destroyed the film in my camera of a water tower and I was then freed.
Glad they did not chop my head off or something.
Probably only a matter of time before we see a revolution in Saudi, but I guess that UK and America do not want to see a revolution just now, and will continue to suck up to the "Saudi Royal" princes and king.
Wonder what would happen to the price of crude oil if ARAMCO and Rastanora in
the Eastern Province was disrupted, or a few major pipelines were cut ??

just to c+p what i posted yesterday
SAUDI
there's no question but that it is a distinctly oppressive regime, and woe betide you if you fall foul of the muttaween (the strict religious police)
i think much of this oppression stems from the inherent weakness of the house of saud (ruling family) who are wahhabi sunni (strictly orthodox), for there is a significant minority in the country who are shia
house of saud is friendly to the west, but of course that upsets the large fundamentalist clique in the court, that also has many adherents throughout the country
thus there are always the seeds for underlying unrest
i think i've got all the above correct

You are correct Mr Cynic - the sooner the place gets sorted out the sooner we shall see peace in the Middle East. How can there ever be peace there with such a prominent destabalising major player, continuing to be accepted.
Give it a couple of years and all hell will let loose in Saudi. They will find with the internet etc that they can no longer keep the lid on their oil price supported cardboard box.
Bye the way were you a diplomat, you should call a bent spade a bent spade

great and fairly credible story line, and really gripping
very sexy girl friend, though she's not pretty and not even especially attractive

If i were you I would definitely trade her in for a better model.
Mind you, it depends on how desperate you are, what you look like,

rekirkham getting rid of the saudi royals won't solve the problem, just excarbate it...No matter what you think of dictators like Sadam Husein or Assad in countries in the middle east and a lot in Africa like Libya, need someone of that calibre to keep control of all the different sects, otherwise it just disintergrates...
When Yugoslavia was controlled by Tito he kept the country together, once he went it all fell apart.

Blair and Bush should never have touched any of them , leave them be .
It was ok before , now look at what we have ,i just wish the middle east would stay where it is ,we don't want them here in Europe ,look at what they have brought .
