THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

let it close down we need cheap steel cheap everthing

cynic - 30 Mar 2016 13:44 - 69529 of 81564

as has been pointed out, that sort of philosophy can and usually does come back to bite you hard
leaving aside the socio-economic impact, in the fullness of time, the cycle will turn once once more and commodity prices will increase as will the products for which they are used
if wholesale dumping is allowed without check in times of glut, resulting in certain industries being put out of business, then in due course, there will be a lack of competition with just the few holding all the cards
not healthy at all

iturama - 30 Mar 2016 14:11 - 69530 of 81564

Cheap everything as long as it is not cheap labour from the EU. If you are going to criticise at least be consistent.
Chinese steel is not cheaper because their technology or productivity is so much greater. The yanks have recognised that and taken the steps to protect their national interest.

TANKER - 30 Mar 2016 15:13 - 69535 of 81564

grannyboy - 30 Mar 2016 15:19 - 69536 of 81564

The UK government isn't allowed to give out subsidies without the EXPLICIT permission of Brussels, and I don't recollect TATA receiving any taxpayers money...I could be wrong, but don't believe so..

TANKER - 31 Mar 2016 08:07 - 69537 of 81564

steel plants . what ever happens job loses will be over 20000.
has a conservative we must ignore the eu and re nationalise
but cut the wages by 20% to put in to the pension fund

grannyboy - 31 Mar 2016 08:41 - 69538 of 81564

It's being reported on SKY that in all probability the government will put some money into the Steel industry 'in the short term'...Precisely short term, like until after the referendum...

Cameron's most likely been on the phone to his masters in Brussels asking permission to hand some money out to make it appear as if they give a fig...

MaxK - 31 Mar 2016 08:47 - 69539 of 81564

Cameroon flying in to save the steel plants...dream on, it's all part of the scam.

The future is safe in their hands.

Just put the lights out.

By the way, the failures are nothing to do with world economics, (as said about previous governments) and the same pair of clowns have been in charge for nearly six years.

Was George pleading in China for handouts?
