THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

yet again for the sanctimonious and jealousy-driven among us ......

it has always been perfectly legal to set up family trusts off-shore, though the rules get changed every 5/10 years

if the rules are obeyed - eg declaration to the powers that be - then i have no problem at all

however, and as already voiced, panama has always been a questionable depository
on the other hand, places like channel islands, isle of man and even bermuda are tax havens but properly regulated

==================

i am not jealous of those who inherit wealth, and indeed i shall take reasonable precautions to minimise my own iht liabilities

why should the taxman steal any more than the fair minimum from my children?

Stan - 05 Apr 2016 20:47 - 69643 of 81564

Oh do stop inventing things Alf, off shore tax avoiding/evading is nothing to do with jealousy, among other things it's about being a scrounger.

The fact that their tax rate is lower in the 1st place and secondly shifting some/all of there gains out of the Country is what most reasonable people think is wrong.

If you earn the money within this Country then it's only right that you contribute to the running of it by paying your taxes in it.

Fred1new - 05 Apr 2016 20:49 - 69644 of 81564

Stan,

Agreed!

Someone would be happy to be the godfather!

Haystack - 05 Apr 2016 22:44 - 69645 of 81564

MaxK
I don't care what Amazon does with its money,

Stan - 05 Apr 2016 22:54 - 69646 of 81564

Don't care just about sums you up.

Haystack - 05 Apr 2016 23:09 - 69647 of 81564

Amazon are doing nothing illegal. I am happy that they are doing legal things. If the law changes then I will be happy if they obey the new laws. Avoiding tax is just common sense and good business practice. There is no morality involved no matter how much the lefties bleat about it.

MaxK - 05 Apr 2016 23:35 - 69648 of 81564

Well said Stan re#69644

The other way is what the Vikings done to blighty, before blighty learned how to do it properly.

This, and any other complex country requires money to fund it's endevours, coming in and nicking the business without paying a fair whack leads to the country going downhill, it bleeds it dry.

However, Haystack thinks that's fine and dandy.

You are on the wrong side of logic!

Haystack - 05 Apr 2016 23:41 - 69649 of 81564

I didn't say it was fine. I said I was happy that they obey the law. The answer is not to moan about Amazon but to change the law. Amazon has a duty to its shareholders to maximize profits and that involves paying the least tax within the law. Amazon's first duty is to its shareholders and not to the UK.

TANKER - 06 Apr 2016 08:10 - 69650 of 81564

hays its the bastards that avoid paying their taxes that set the rules .
Cameron and any other mp who is found to be avoiding and fiddling their taxes
should be named and shamed and banned from working in any gov post

The NHS will be at risk of further privatisation if Britain stays in the EU because of the major trade deal being negotiated with the US, David Owen will say on Wednesday.

Lord Owen, who was health secretary for Labour in the mid-1970s before co-founding the SDP, said it would be impossible to take the NHS back to its original purpose unless the UK votes to leave in the June referendum.

Speaking to the Guardian, Owen said the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the EU and the US could put the NHS in “serious danger” unless there are more special protections to exclude the health service from the terms of the deal.

David Cameron was forced to issue a statement detailing his family's personal tax arrangements amid growing international scandal surrounding the Panama papers leak. Mr Cameron took the unusual step of insisting that neither he, his wife or children receive any benefit from an offshore company set up in Panama by his late father Ian, which paid no tax in Britain for 30 years.

The Telegraph has established that Ian Cameron’s firm Blairmore Holdings Inc was moved to Ireland in 2010 - the year David Cameron became Prime Minister. A source close to Blairmore Holdings - which is still operating with assets of £35 million – said the company had been moved because its directors believed it was about to “come under more scrutiny”.
just a bloody crook the family are a bloody disgrace Cameron new and took the free tax free cash

TANKER - 06 Apr 2016 08:23 - 69653 of 81564

paid no uk tax for 30 years make is family pay it all back plus interest of 5%

TANKER - 06 Apr 2016 08:25 - 69654 of 81564

then the tax man makes late tax payers pay a fine for being a day late
they need now to turn all their attention to these crooks and liars

Stan - 06 Apr 2016 08:28 - 69655 of 81564

So H/S just to make your position clearer, do you involve yourself or your family in off shore tax avoiding and or evading?

TANKER - 06 Apr 2016 08:37 - 69656 of 81564

The 'Panama Papers' appear to have revealed Britain's key role as a link to thousands of firms based in tax havens.

UK firms feature as 'intermediaries' more often than almost any other nation in 11million secret files obtained from Panama law firm Mossack Fonseca.

HM Revenue and Customs is set to probe the documents handed to a global group of journalists, who said they name dozens of world leaders and celebrities using tax havens to hide their wealth.

David Cameron: 'There is more to do on tax evasion'

5 April 2016 Last updated at 22:51 BST
Jeremy Corbyn has said there should be an independent inquiry into the tax affairs of every British person linked to the Panama Papers.

The Labour leader said that should include the Cameron family, following news that the prime minister's late father had set up an offshore investment fund.
Downing Street said that David Cameron, his wife and children did not benefit from any offshore funds.
Kamal Ahmed reports.

Try "gained" and/or "will gain".

To me, he is a "consummated self interested liar" who is beginning to unravel.

jimmy b - 06 Apr 2016 09:32 - 69659 of 81564

I agree with Stan here ,i have never and never will buy anything from Amazon due to the fact that they avoid tax while making fortunes in this country .
It is the fault of the law however we can do something about it by never buying from these companies .

Stan don't tell me you have ever bought from Amazon ?

TANKER - 06 Apr 2016 09:45 - 69660 of 81564

I to never buy from amazon or any non uk company have stopped using T/C STARBUCKS ALDI LIDDLE
MC DONS

Fred1new - 06 Apr 2016 09:48 - 69661 of 81564

It is the fault of government who fail to legislate appropriately and then implement or apply the tax rules effectively. (Deliberately or by ignorance.)
