Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

From 2004 when the EU expended a lot of UK employment agencies went
straight out to countries like Poland/Slovakia/Lithuania, etc, etc, etc and
advertised directly in those countries for workers to come to the UK, thus
bypassing the UK workforce, simply because they were cheaper and would
work longer hours without overtime rates been paid..

How do you think the Hotel and leisure sectors managed before this mass
open free movement, the same as the farmers and every other seasonal
work..

And if these businesses can't afford to pay a decent wage they should not be
in business...The same with those who say wages should be(living wage)of at
least 10 pounds an hour, these would be extra cost and have to come from
somewhere, usually by putting the price up, I can do without running on a trad
mill by jogging round the park, or push ups on a park bench..

an increase in payroll costs will almost certainly need to be passed on to the end user
so i ask again, how much extra would you be prepared to pay for your coffee or sandwich or hotel room?

Most hospitality companies charge what they think they can get away with,
and thats all the better for the owners if they can get cheap labour from abroad,
and that includes not paying overtime rates.

As to your question..I will NOT pay exorbitant prices and will do without, or if
desperate certainly shop around..

ah, so you don't mind the employer having to pay more as long as it does not impact on what you have to pay

what sort of margin do you think a restaurant or take-away makes?
as i'm sure you don't know, the answer is very little and that is why their mortality rate is so high

they work a certain amount hours then claim working tax benefits, its all a con.

details to the benefits offices...And we've had this argument before the referendum
and i made a fool of you then and i have no problem doing the same again..

The cockroaches remind me of a meal I had at the house of a mine agent in Rajasthan. Lovely couple with very smart and intelligent children. During my meal, which was the usual rice and curry, I felt that special texture in my mouth. I removed it as discreetly as I could and discovered it was a large cockroach. I sifted through the rest of the curry with my fork and found a couple more. I had read in the Air India flight magazine that it was not unusual for roaches to be eaten so didn't know if they were in there by design or accident. I decided to stay quiet and just eat the rice and no second helpings thank you. I have probably eaten worse without knowing.

i wouldn't recommend eating them unless perhaps deep fried to purge them of the likely lurking lurgies

Dr Andrew Watt, a retired Scottish doctor, said Ms May’s notification to the head of the European Council Donald Tusk of the UK’s intention to leave the EU on 29 March is void because the country never officially decided to leave the union.

He argued last year’s EU referendum was not a legally binding decision but according to Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, member states have to decide to leave the EU in accordance with constitutional requirements before notifying Brussels of their intention.

Dr Watt said the UK never took the constitutional decision to leave the EU, making unlawful any later notice of withdrawal.

Why isn't the EU telling us that we can't do what we are doing , surely they would stick that up our noses wouldn't they .
