Vodafone, Buy?

bingobingham - 20 Jul 2003 12:06

Hi all!

Can anybody offer their expetise and advice on whether Vodafone would be a good buy in the short term/long term?

Profits are up, debt is down and compay is expanding. Why the downward trend?

Your views either way would be helpful as I am relatively new to trading and need all the advice I can get.

Cheers!

Plenty of false dawns over the past couple of years,2 month's ago were up-graded now this week down-graded with a suggested switch to BT.
If analysts are anything to go by then these will do the reverse and go up.Having worked in finance all my working life I have seen first hand how little they get right.

I would personally not tade until you see an uptrend you know you cant guess the bottom but climb on when its rising, ithink its psycological more tan anything in this game who knows what the big players do

under 1.20 a nice price to buy.bt is the one people should be talking about talk about a little nugget, look at the increaseing divi, now at half the price they where once paying out ,,and its more healthy now ,,,than when they payed 19.6 back in 2000,when there dept was huge..so wake up and amell the coffee.

daves dazzlers - 18 Jun 2004 19:36 - 14 of 21

i wonder where its going vodaphone{who no`s} not me? never be a takeover target/never be a big divi payer ,due to the shares in circulation. i had vod 2 years ago then the price was 1.50 then.best of luck you mite need it.dave

optomistic - 18 Jun 2004 19:40 - 15 of 21

Thanks Dave, did decide not to buy any more. Originals are in the long term department (not plan A) but I suppose things can change rapidly, even in the telecom sector. Ever hopeful thats me. :-))

daves dazzlers - 18 Jun 2004 20:09 - 16 of 21

optomistic,,dont let me change your mind , its solid enough/the price seems fair enough 1.20/1.30 range/and its not going to lose alot of value, short term/long term.
whats your view i`am intrested in what you think ,,as i am looking myself for another holding.

MightyMicro - 18 Jun 2004 20:38 - 17 of 21

daves dazzlers - 18 Jun 2004 20:44 - 18 of 21

now your talking micro.i bought bt over 2 years ago 254 i think,,and i thought that was a fair price.talk about a dead duck.if the 2 got together they would be a strong force in telecoms ,,both have what the other would love. now i am dreaming a return????????

http://www.newratings.com/new2/beta/article_434821.html
LONDON, June 18 (New Ratings) - Analysts at Commerzbank Securities upgrade Vodafone (VOD.ETR) from "equal-weight" to "overweight." The target price has been raised from 150p to 154p.

Vodafone is a global wireless telecommunication service provider.

According to Commerzbank Securities' research note published this morning, the market expectations for the company is low due to the challenging business environment in Japan. The analysts believe that the company's Japanese operations would improve in the forthcoming quarters. Vodafone is likely to repurchase its shares aggressively in the near term, as the current share price undervalues the company's growth prospects, the analysts add.

Commerzbank Securities expresses its concern regarding Vodafone's recent over-priced acquisitions and the company's weak contacts with investors. The analysts, however, expect the company's earnings to improve in the forthcoming quarters. The company is likely to generate a 9-12% EPS CAGR in the forthcoming three years, the analysts say. According to Commerzbank Securities, the company's stock is attractively valued at present.
