little woman - 09 Dec 2003 09:43 - 7 of 36

Anyone's free to attend

little woman - 10 Dec 2003 10:37 - 8 of 36

17 confirmed so far - looks like its going to be a lively & interesting get together.

little woman - 12 Dec 2003 09:59 - 9 of 36

Thought I should bring this back to everyones attention, as I don't want anyone saying they didn't know about it until after the event!

Wendy D - 13 Dec 2003 19:09 - 10 of 36

As a dweller in Hook, it would ill-become me to miss such a prestigious event! Is the venue decided? If not, there is an excellent and very old coaching inn in Hook itself on the A30 London Road, the White Hart (NOT to be confused with the Old White Hart, a nasty modern affair a few hundred yards up the road!).

little woman - 14 Dec 2003 19:19 - 11 of 36

WendyD - Scripophilist who spends all his time in the traders thread also lives in Hook, and I've agreed (unless he doesn't sort something) that he can find/pick the venue. (I think he's also organising a speaker for the get together). The only thing is we do need lots of free parking (which I'm sure there is enough at the White Hart, which I'm sure was one of the venues considered for the last get together.) Also space - I thing numbers will exceed 30 this time. There are quite a few people not confirmed yet that I hope will confirm nearer the time.

Are you going to join us?

Bones - 15 Dec 2003 08:26 - 12 of 36

Wendy D - I am also in Hook and will be attending the meet! Look forward to meeting you (and Scrip again).

little woman - 18 Dec 2003 19:02 - 13 of 36

Roll up Roll up...come and put your name down for this event...

Can you pass up the chance to buy me a drink? Venue to be announced shortly

Find out why I'm is called "Little Woman" and what exactly is a "Scripophilist"

If you are near the M3 or M4 or even if your are not come along for a friendly night out

Oh go on!!!!!...doors open 6:30 I believe

(Sorry foale for the plagiarism!)

little woman - 20 Dec 2003 14:12 - 14 of 36

Hope to post the venue before Christmas.

Wendy D - 21 Dec 2003 14:44 - 15 of 36

Little Woman - Yes, workload permitting, I shall be there. Be interesting to meet other Hook-ites...

Great if you do pick the White Hart - I can walk! There's a big car park but it's quite busy on weekdays due to the business hotel out the back - however, there's even bigger public CP immediately across the road which is - I am pretty sure - free in the evenings.

(And they have a good deal on wine - buy two large glasses and you get the rest of the bottle for nothing!) 8-)

little woman - 22 Dec 2003 08:10 - 16 of 36

WendyD - the wine deal sounds good. Maybe I'll do this by taxi instead of driving!

Andy - 22 Dec 2003 09:59 - 17 of 36

Wendy,

Trust you to know about the wine deals!

So you drink it by the bottle then?
That certainly explains a few of your share pics!

Only kidding, hope you have a great Xmas!

Scripophilist - 22 Dec 2003 22:57 - 18 of 36

Hi, We have settled on the White Hart in Hook and they will let us have the restuarant to ourselves as the numbers will be suffcient. I've found a couple of other suitable places also but they were busy for this date but we can try them for the next meeting maybe.

Hook is less than two minutes from M3 J5 and fifteen from M4 J11. There is local railway station that with a mainline station to London Waterloo or Southampton, Salisbury etc. in the other direction. The location is within five minutes walk from the train station.

Bones - 23 Dec 2003 10:53 - 19 of 36

The WHITE HART is next to a petrol station and also opposite another petrol station (on the A30). There is a church (St John the Evangelist) immediately the other side of the petrol station on the same side as the pub (got it?!)

The other pub (OLD WHITE HART) is 100 yards away on the other side of the mini roundabout from the petrol stations, so don't go there.

Here is the link to a map:

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=472557&y=154317&z=0&sv=472557,154317&st=4&tl=White+Hart+-+location&bi=bgcolor=cccccc&lu=N&ar=y

From the railway station:

If you come in from the London direction, cross the footbridge, walk up the approach road (you will see The Raven hotel on your right), carry on up the main road 50 yds to a mini roundabout. Bear right into the A30 and the White Hart is on your right after another 50 yds. (Less than 5 min walk).

If coming in from Southampton/Basingstoke direction by train, simply leave station on that side and walk up ramp as above.

If travelling by car via M3:

Coming from London, exit J5 and take 4th exit off roundabout signposted Reading and Hook; take first exit (straight on) at next roundabout (300 yds); go over railway bridge and take right onto A30 at mini roundabout. Car park for White Hart on right before petrol station (< 50 yds). Also free pay & display (after 6pm?) on left at same location.

Coming from Basingstoke, exit J5 and take 2nd exit signposted Reading and Hook; then as above.

Approaching via A30:

From London, enter Hook and pub is on left just after petrol stations (one either side) but before mini roundabout.

From Basingstoke, enter Hook and DO NOT turn right into the OLD white Hart before the mini roundabout. Instead, cross mini roundabout and our White Hart is on the right before the petrol stations.

Approaching from Reading (B road (can't remember number) after leaving A33 at Stratfield Saye). Follow the B road (Griffin Way North on the linked map) until the roundabout that joins the A30. Turn right (3rd exit) into Hook village and pub is on left just after petrol stations (one either side) but before mini roundabout.

Easy when you know how!

little woman - 23 Dec 2003 19:34 - 20 of 36

Wendy are you joining us now we are meeting in Hook?

And Andy are you going to make it?

Andy - 27 Dec 2003 23:35 - 21 of 36

Thanks everyone for your input - this is brilliant for me, as so far apart from creating this thread, I have had next to nothing to do!

Andy don't worry if you're going to be really late - it'll be good to see you any way.

Bones - 31 Dec 2003 11:38 - 23 of 36

ttt

Andy - 31 Dec 2003 12:37 - 24 of 36

LW,

OK, thanks

little woman - 02 Jan 2004 13:28 - 25 of 36

Only 12 days to go!

Wendy D - 04 Jan 2004 12:12 - 26 of 36

Little woman - certainly, count me in!

Deadline one is 7th Jan, and Deadline 2 not till the end of the month, so I should be able to fit in an evening of suitable conviviality.....(and wallop Andy for casting nasturtiums at my share picks!)

Oh - and before I forget - I saw Christian, the White Hart's chef the other day and mentioned that the meeting might be taking place. He said if the organiser mentioned the name of Wendy or Denise we would get special treatment!
