A new non-java Stockwatch is ready to try out - Technical Beta Test

IanT(MoneyAM) - 29 Jan 2014 07:42

As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

The new version can be found on the following link:

http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php

NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile

Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread

Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

HARRYCAT - 04 Feb 2015 09:56 - 701 of 734

Lovely and I don't have to click the 'Beta' link any more!

Oakapples142 - 04 Feb 2015 10:17 - 702 of 734

Well done - can you now change the red numbers to blue !!

Stan - 04 Feb 2015 10:35 - 703 of 734

Agree with others, only gripe is that S/W is offset to the right by about one inch on my 21in screen.

Balerboy - 04 Feb 2015 10:38 - 704 of 734

Get a bigger screen you tight wad.,.

Stan - 04 Feb 2015 10:39 - 705 of 734

Big enough for me thanks.

Balerboy - 04 Feb 2015 10:44 - 706 of 734

lol, sounds like you need to adjust the column's a bit.,.

Stan - 04 Feb 2015 10:47 - 707 of 734

Instruction please.

godin1 - 04 Feb 2015 10:47 - 708 of 734

well done much better.

Balerboy - 04 Feb 2015 10:54 - 709 of 734

Maybe not, there's only two column's that adjust, it also depends on how many columns you have.....maybe you could do with out one.,.

Stan - 04 Feb 2015 10:55 - 710 of 734

Thanks I'll have a play.

Stan - 04 Feb 2015 11:01 - 711 of 734

All the columns are down to their minimum and they always have been, so not sure what else I can do.

HARRYCAT - 04 Feb 2015 11:06 - 712 of 734

On my screen (using Chrome) the whole page is set with all components aligned to the left margin, so adding columns increases the spread across the page to the right. Sounds like a display correction which you need. Depends on your browser as to how you adjust.

zzaxx99 - 04 Feb 2015 13:52 - 713 of 734

Is there a limit on the number of stocks in this version? I have lists with up to 60 stocks in them, which display OK in the HTML (or Java version when I can get it to work) but only the first 20 or 21 are listed in this version

Benby - 04 Feb 2015 14:03 - 714 of 734

It seems to have stripped out certain stocks/etf eg PHAU SLVR LPET and won't let me put them back in.
Why is this? Anybody else noticed and missing?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 04 Feb 2015 14:12 - 715 of 734

Benby,

We are taking a look at that,

Regards

Ian

I can put the Epics back in now and they stay there. Thanks, it looks good and works better.

Margin problems: Chrome and Firefox both show far too much LHS margin on MoneyAm's web pages. This problem is particularly irksome on Stockwatch.

Ian

I think, that for the moment, any and all of our comments as to what we are experiencing are so individually specific, unthorough, and almost entirely worthless.

Surely, as a professional web site designer, you have a check list as to what to look for on here and will surely test it out on all the popular browsers (Opera, Firefox, IE, Chrome) before putting your web site alterations and improvements to the public domain?

If you do have such notes and you let us be privy as to what we should be looking for - and also how exactly how you would like us to respond with our answers (eg. browser, version, URL address, how many stocks on the StockWatch page, etc, etc, etc, etc., then we might get somewhere better and quicker.

Not forgetting Safari as the default browser on all Macs.
