Oh Good glad It's not only me then Fred, I've tried all I know clearing cookies, logging In and out, refreshing, closing browser and restarting so suppose It's a problem at MAMs end. No good checking Java on a Mac as I think It's pre-installed and updated via Apple Software Update.

Bought one of my daughters a Sony Walkman because her iPod's stuffed. I think it's a discontinued model (NW-A806) but was nice and cheap, and thought I could simply transfer the music through iTunes to the Walkman. Wrong there!
So, I then installed Sony's Sonic Stage software on the kids PC, and still couldn't get the tunes transferred. I now realise I'll have to convert the iTunes songs, some of which have been downloaded so have drm protection, in some way. Can anyone recommend a program to this?
Next problem is that I then thought I'd at least give her some of my music so connected the Walkman with my PC using media player. transferred the files OK, but can't get the Walkman to recognise the music - I assume that's because the Sony software has taken over control of what's displayed. How to get myself out of this pickle? I am tempted to un-install Sony Sonic stage but suspect this won't affect the Walkman. Any help appreciated.

SC,
http://www.soundtaxi.info/
Works a treat.
Maybe when your tracks are all MP3 your second problem might go away.

Any ipod/itunes experts out there. When I exported my albums into itunes some get split so I end up with the same album many times with a couple of songs in each. How do I consolidate them into one album.

jeff,
How serious do you want to get?
I use Soundtaxi to get everything into MP3.
I use StationPlaylist Manager to build my playlists.
I have about three thousand track sorted into folders by artist and the folders into category folders (male, female, guitar, piano, etc) The StationPlaylist manager then builds playlists based on sequences of music type - according to your preference.
SPM is used by a lot of small radio stations.
Sounds complicated - but it makes for thoroughly varied listening.

I suspect that you need to tagg the original files properly. You can do this with Windows Media Player, but a better way is to use
MusicBrainz Picard Tagger.
However you change the taggs, there is a setting in Windows Media Centre that allows it to move the files to a different directory depending on the tagg info. Make sure that that is switched off or your computer based albums will end up scrambled as well. If possible backup your music directory before you start.

I get my new PC tomorrow.
Can somebody remind me how to move my Outlook diary and contacts from my XP Pro laptop to my new Vista PC, please?
I'm sure it's there in Google - but not all that obvious.

I think everything is stored in the *.pst file. Copy it accross to the new machine and point Outlook at it.
While you're at it, install
Xobini as an addon in Outlook.

Thanks guys,
In fact I use nPOP as my mail reader for monitoring and Virtual Access for the main reader/storer. But I'll look at what that link does, Opt.
The advantage of nPOP is that it can look at my mailbox every few minutes and put up a flash if there is anything new.
Eight times out of ten it is smut - so I can delete it at source before downloading what is wanted with VA.

Thanks guys. Will have a look at that TP.
Optimist, these files on Windows Media player are all mp3, so should show up on the Walkman. I think it was Sony's attempt to keep control of your music which has now been discontinued.
Haystack, I think the battery won't hold its charge any more, and I can't get anything out of Apple. It's an old machine so not under warranty.

Thanks Opt,
I have nPOP both on my main PC and my PDA which tomorrow will be swopped into an XDA Orbit 2.
At least I understand how to make it work with my POP3 mailbox and my AuthSMTP sub - so I might follow the if it ain't broke route for the mo'.
Whilst you are around.....I am probably going to have to move about 2.7 gig of photo files to a new web server soon. There is no way I can do that over my broadband and the new server owner is talking about using SSH to get the files from the old to the new site. Do you know what he's talking about, please?

Thanks for replies. I got this from the apple website and it worked
You need to mark all the songs from that album as a compilation.
Select all the songs from that album -- one way is to use the "Browser" to select that album.
"Get Info" on the selected tracks (right-click and select "Get Info", or select "File..Get Info".)
In the "Multiple Item Information" dialog that appears, check the box for "Compilation", and select "Yes" from the pulldown.
Then click "OK".
