Oven-ready laser sealing
27 May 2005
UK traysealing specialist Packaging Automation has collaborated with four other commercial companies and Loughborough University scientists to develop a non-contact laser sealing and inspection system for oven-ready meal packs which eliminates the need for conventional tooling.Suitable for ambient and chilled oven-ready meals, the system was developed as an alternative to conventional heatsealing in conjunction with The Recipe Dish Company, RPC Containers and FPP Packaging Solutions, laser supplier GSI Lumonics and researchers at Loughborough University's Mechatronics Research Centre in a DEFRA-sponsored FoodLINK project.Packaging Automation says it significantly reduces tooling costs, improves seal quality and reduces wastage. Multiple tray shapes can be processed on a single production line, while fast changeovers can be achieved without resetting the sealing machinery. Laser sealing lights the way forward
A laser sealing and inspection system for oven-ready meals is the result of a DEFRA-sponsored project.
The sealing system can be used for ambient or chilled . It seals lidding film to food trays using a laser without the need for conventional tooling. The non-contact, flexible system can process multiple tray shapes on a single production line, and fast product changeovers can be achieved without resetting the sealing machinery. An added advantage is that the laser beam only cuts the lidding film once the seal has been made.
An advanced inspection system, using an embedded signature and computer vision technique, has also been developed which will check the seal quality of every pack. Tests have shown that laser seals are stronger than traditional methods, but have the added advantage of being easier to peel.
Knutsford-based Packaging Automation developed the equipment in conjunction with chilled ready meals producer The Recipe Dish Company, RPC Containers, laser manufacturer GSI Lumonics, FFP Packaging Solutions and academic partner Loughborough University,

And now you can see a reason why there is no rush to convert to Greenseal RF sealing has the same limitations as Heat Sealing tooling is required for different tray sizes and shapes downtime on changeover still need consumable trim blades to cut the lidding BUT with Laser on a single line you can process any size or shape of tray minimal downtime on changeover as no need to change any tooling or sealing head it cuts with the laser too so no trim blades superior sealing excellent peel sealing (not cut to open like SE0 trial runs) this Laser system that is now at test and trial stage and if successful then you can understand why suppliers do not want Greenseal they will wait and rather spend their money on Laser which will give them seriously more benefit and savings than Greenseal ever could. Why did you think those EVO forecasts are steadily being reduced and now showing SE0 posting a loss at prelims and no longer a profit ? Why the sudden rush to buy Biotec ? There are severe problems IMO for SE0 and over time you will understand why I have been and am so bearish.
SE0 can talk the talk rampers can ramp the ramp tipsters can tip the tip but those thousand (even hundreds) of orders are not flowing the company can talk all they like about how wonderful they think their product is thats their job but orders and revenue is the key its not there only 2 orders to date and in fact only perhaps 2 dozen potential orders more short term with over a thousand order already in the SEO price and a much better solution now gaining momentum do not be shocked if the greatest ramp ever comes sooner rather than later crashing down to earth.
Always remember in food packaging Any problems on the line can mean missed deliveries. There is no opportunity to redeliver the next day. That means we need reliable equipment and the reassurance of 24 hour support and fast response. have you heard about reliability of those RF sealing heads or just talk about everything else but not the reliability aspect ? Remember what Hitchens said just one for now and if that is ok after running for some time then maybe 4 more but just one for now. Remember those trials that were due to finish in April but still not finished as of July the 9th ??
Watch for minimal orders for Greenseal as the Laser system comes through test and trial.

Sorry Seqie - with the new-style board original Squelchees were re-admitted. I immediately squelched ii again, but thought I'd have another go with you. However, whether what you say about Paul Masterson is truue or not (and I have myself in the past asked him not to be so aggressive in his style), your offensive know-it-all language is just too wearying to tolerate. If you need to be confrontational to feel socially at ease, you'll have to do it wiith out me as cannon-fodder. Bye bye again. Squelched!

Aldwick/Stockdog Hi,
Thanks :)
iidiot remains squelched by me, but the reason he continues his barrage of abuse and false claims against me even though I do not reply, just goes with the rest of his lies and drivel, it's all just SEO bashing, 24/7 365 days a year, whilst claiming no interest in SEO is just another lie, he hates the company and it's shareholders.
Cheers,
PM

PM1 - drop the personal stuff - keep to the company and potential - you have had in the past your bullish views - and I have still today my bearish views - I am only pointing out the anti-ramp.
Notice the laser sealing can do peel lids notice from EVO (Jan 05) earlier write ups that SE0 RF cannot and the need for cut to open warnings with the new RF sealed lids ;-)
Lots of false posts around the net saying I saw Greenseal in Tesco and the like put it this way if the package is consumer unfriendly imo - and has a notice on the front to Cut to Open then its likely to be Greenseal if its consumer friendly and peel off top its likely not. Do not be confused by the rampers read the EVO Jan report see what they say about Cut to Open lids and warnings. The latest heat sealing machines from the likes of Proseal and Cryovac amongst others do a superior lid with excellent seal and clarity so if it looks pretty it could be any machine if it has a warning to cut it open and in Asda it could be Greenseal.
If you think Laser tray lidding sealing is not a product then in my earlier posts yesterday - is the recent write up and photo of the Laser sealing system forget comments of fumes/smoke etc we are talking sealing not burning whoever come up with comments about fumes must be a total idiot and trying to hide something. You can see from the photo its real and under tests. Laser like RF comes in many different formats and frequencies certain RF levels are harmful certain are fine for sealing certain laser levels are ideal for hand held pointers or for cutting or for sealing.
Take a look at SEO getting ramped on a Skiing site ;-) LOL

Its getting quite desperate now imo all the 2006 news including a Walmart deal and 1000 machine orders is in the price so it is amazing where you will find posts saying Hey I have a great share tip buy some SEO - rampers trying to get more people into the overvalued over ramped over hyped SE0.
Very funny when you read the earlier reports like EVO Jan 2005 they had a 10p target for 2006 which when you consider real life order flow now (2 machines and a handful more coming) it was a very reasonable target.
