How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Bugz - 17 Dec 2005 15:38 - 7094 of 10502

Fundamentalist - 17 Dec 2005 15:46 - 7095 of 10502

Bugz

See it being quite a dull game, a goal in it either way

Bugz - 17 Dec 2005 15:53 - 7096 of 10502

I thought the contary Fundy. Thought it would be quite open.

West ham just equalised through a Solano cock up!

Fundamentalist - 17 Dec 2005 15:57 - 7097 of 10502

Lets hope your right, as im not convinced the odd goal will go our way in my scenario!!!

Currently watching/trading the rugby as couldnt find much to interest me in this afternoons footie

Bugz - 17 Dec 2005 17:19 - 7098 of 10502

Sorry Fundy-being thick!

I was referring to the West Ham game!!!!!

The gunners game, as you say, will prob be tight. I aint looking that forward to it either. We could get seriously mullered in midfield. Veira's loss is starting to show itself.

Any of you Betangle experts able to help with a problem?
First day on the free software have backed Colin Jackson on the strictly come dancing at 1.74 . This shows as 1.48 profit for Jackson and -2 on the rest.
The problem is at the bottom of page it now says 2 bet placed on Jackson at 1.74 Entirely unmatched, having previously saying matched. What have i done wrong?

Bugz - 17 Dec 2005 18:36 - 7100 of 10502

Have you got the auto update box ticked?

Cloudbase - 17 Dec 2005 18:42 - 7101 of 10502

Bugz, yes i have, just relaunched software and position still showing but
messabe at the bottom of page now gone. Will let it run a bit longer before greening.

Bugz - 17 Dec 2005 18:47 - 7102 of 10502

Thats odd. Well if its gone and ur betfair account isnt showing it than I guess its fine!

Never happened to me. Script I understand writes the software so he'll know a great deal more than me!! I'm a major amateur...!

Bugz - 17 Dec 2005 18:48 - 7103 of 10502

Cloudbase

Just to warn you on betting on tv outcomes, did you read that link by script Re the X Factor scam maybe 10 pages back?

Cloudbase - 17 Dec 2005 18:54 - 7104 of 10502

Bugz, first day for me, so major general amateur for me. First ever bet on a horse race today as well, with a posative outcome thanks to Scrip's Manchester training day.

Cloudbase - 17 Dec 2005 18:59 - 7105 of 10502

Bugz, yes read that and only scalping at min bets to get the feel for things, i think scams often create oppertunities for short term trades as in the stock market

Scripophilist - 17 Dec 2005 20:11 - 7106 of 10502

Not sure what the issue was cloudbase without seeing a screenshot.

Scripophilist - 17 Dec 2005 20:13 - 7107 of 10502

I recommend if anyboy is around getting on over to X factor and Strictly come dancing. I have been putting orders in out of the money and closing out opposing trades when the fill. Having some very profitable fun.

Cloudbase - 17 Dec 2005 20:44 - 7108 of 10502

Scrip. Didn't get a screen shot, but will do if it happens again. Great fun as you say on Strictly come dancing, wondered if it was you with the large orders, will give you a ring to upgrade as son as i get the hang of the basics. Its a bit different to scalping the US futures order book.

Scripophilist - 17 Dec 2005 21:45 - 7109 of 10502

Just bagged a chunk on coming dancing. Laid Colin Jackson as the final two were annouced. He was at 1.47, price went out to 2 on the annoucment. Everybody was trying to lay Zoe Ball. Strange or what!

Fundamentalist - 17 Dec 2005 22:36 - 7110 of 10502

Scrip

backed Gough all evening as soon as the judges votes were cast. The way it was structured as long as Zoe Ball beat Jackson on the judges vote then Gough should have been very short cos for several weeks the public vote was clearly gough then jackson then ball

also picked up all the free money on Zoe Ball from 200s to 1000s after she had been voted off

a nice evening though had most of my xfactor profit on Andy - cant win em all eh

Scripophilist - 18 Dec 2005 10:27 - 7111 of 10502

Fundamentalist - 18 Dec 2005 11:45 - 7112 of 10502
