THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

I get concerned for you when you use caps Tanker. Sit down and have a cup of tea.
It cannot be by coincidence that Carney appears talking about Brexit, and a possible recession, then the next day Lagarde appears with another warning. The same thing happened in March. Of course both owe their jobs to UK govt support.
Where were the bankers warning our parents about the economic effect when Europe mobilised for WW2? These people need to understand that there are times when interest rates and the FX are not so important as being free - and hopefully not being led by our Dave. I can't take any more of him rolling up his sleeves, pushing out his various chins, and promising to fight for Britain. Merkel simply tells him to FO and he returns all smiles, like Chamberlain.

If you compute in the extra cost to the NHS, the additional schools and teachers and the housing demand, the actual cost of EU membership is way above the direct cost of EU funding.
We all have eyes and can see the changes in our towns and villages. While reasonable migration is normal amd healthy, our political class are scared to admit the true size of the problem.

TANKER - 13 May 2016 12:19 - 70990 of 81564

Tanker
The UK has benefited handsomely from being in the EU.
Inward investment in the car industry has turned a failing industry around. That investment only came here because we had access to the single market.
EU instigated health and safety regs in the construction industry has saved many lives.
Before the EU membership our own governments were relucent to invest in new roads in the outer areas. The main M4 network and Head of the Valleys roads through Wales are down in no small part to the EU funding.
A massive amount of research funding here is down to our membership of the EU. Our aero industry only survives because we are in the EU. Etc, etc etc.
We benefit, we stay in.

TANKER - 13 May 2016 13:41 - 70994 of 81564

TANKER - 13 May 2016 13:52 - 71000 of 81564

iturama - 13 May 2016 13:58 - 71001 of 81564

Office for National Statistics Sept 2015

The majority of the UK’s motor vehicle imports are from the EU, consistently accounting for over 85% of total motor vehicle imports each year since 1998. Imports from the EU have grown from £14.3 billion to £31.3 billion between 1998 and 2014, whereas imports from non-EU countries have grown from £2.2 billion to £4.0 billion over the same period.

International Trade in Motor Cars

In 1998, a broadly similar composition to imports existed for UK exports; exports of motors vehicles to the EU accounted for three quarters of total motor vehicle exports. This has changed noticeably, with exports to non-EU countries growing at a faster rate than exports to EU countries. Consequently, the share of total motor vehicle manufacturing exports to the EU has fallen to 40%. Exports to non-EU countries have grown from £2.9 billion to £17.9 billion from 1998 to 2014, whereas exports to EU countries have grown from £8.0 billion to £11.9 billion over the same period.

Looking at the 2011 exports of motor cars by the individual Member States, Germany alone was responsible for well over half (60 %) of the EU total. The United Kingdom, ranking second, registered about a fifth of the German export value with a share of 13 %.

Now it doesn't take a brain surgeon to see who would suffer most in a car trade war after we have broken off the shackles. But don't worry, it will never happen. Germany has too much to lose and Japan a heck of a lot to gain.
Vote out - you know it makes sense.

The new mayor of London Sadiq Kahn has made his first major policy announcement, unveiling plans to substantially increase the size of London’s clean air charging zone to tackle the capital’s illegal air pollution levels.

The Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) - which could also now come into force earlier than planned - will require drivers of the 2.5m oldest and dirtiest vehicles to pay a charge.

It is intended to act as an incentive to drivers to use cleaner vehicles or alternative transport to reduce the levels of nitrogen dioxide, a toxic gas produced by diesel vehicles.
this is very good news make it illeagal to drive a diesel car in cities
