THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

jimmy b - 20 May 2016 09:23 - 71235 of 81564

I must be careful Fred's now calling me Enoch Powell ,still a bit of an improvement on Hitler .

VICTIM - 20 May 2016 09:26 - 71236 of 81564

He's stuck in the 50s and 60s .

VICTIM - 20 May 2016 09:35 - 71237 of 81564

The point I try to make is that because the EU is so lax over borders it allows in these types of criminal . Saying that you have to strenghthen Interpol is all very good , but it puts massive pressure on all Police throughout Europe ,but if they weren't allowed to roam so freely due to the EU , the problem would be less , and we have more of these type of countries joining the EU .

Fred.......When I was wandering around Portugal, Spain and France a while ago,

Are you a tramp Fred ?

Fred1new - 20 May 2016 09:47 - 71239 of 81564

Vicky,

No, I lived through the 50s and 60s and can remember the crime, deprivation and squalour.

Luckily, I was protected against much of it.

Also, remember the introduction of ECSC, EEC and the reasons for doing so.

Also, remember hitchhiking around a recovering France in 50s and early 60s and meeting students from other European countries and the "will" for a "unified" Europe, especially with fears about USSR and its intentions.

Also, remembering the cost of WW2 and the benefit of allies.

Did you see Paxman on Brussels where they transport every MEP and their files and entourage from Brussels to Strasbourg just to vote over certain items , just because it is written in the EU constitution that it has to be done that way , and it can't be stopped by anyone at all .The people doing it couldn't believe it , It cost over 100,million Euros to implement . They then go back to Brussels and carry on , whether this was every month or year i forget .

jimmy b - 20 May 2016 10:06 - 71242 of 81564

It was once a year ,disgusting waste of money . Didn't Nick Clegg come across as a little shit ,typical failed politician.
Correction it is once a month ..

VICTIM - 20 May 2016 10:11 - 71243 of 81564

Beyond belief jimmy , Glegg couldn't give a straight answer , waste of space , but not to the EU notice .

Stan - 20 May 2016 10:17 - 71244 of 81564

Interesting and relevant Fred, as we tend to take for granted some of the things gained from being a member of a club, much easier to constantly find fault with a club membership for some. Weighing up the pro's and con's takes a fair time after "listening" to people with info on how the EU works overall. Not easy as there is a lot to consider.

Attending meetings on the subject can be very informative, assuming the speakers are as non party political as seen, been to two now and more coming up when spotted I hope.

Fred1new - 20 May 2016 10:33 - 71245 of 81564

Vicky.

No, I didn't.

But may watch it on I-pod etc.

I always thought movement from Brussels to Strasbourg and back again was financial stupidity, but the instigation of the practice was an attempt to calm individual vanities and share out the baubles with different member states.

This sort of "daftness", when seen to be "daftness", can be addressed, but remember the UK seem to be trying to block and destroy the EU for many years before accepting its "political" direction.

Also, the UK wanting the benefits from the organisation, but not willing to accept responsibilities. (Like some wish now.)

That was De Gaulle's initial antipathy to the UK joining the "mix up".

"The present Common Market is incompatible with the economy, as it now stands, of Britain," he said.

He went on to list a number of aspects of Britain's economy, from working practices to agriculture, which he said made Britain incompatible with Europe.

Hopes that he might offer clear terms for associate membership were also dashed. He said France would back commercial exchanges with Britain - "be it called association or by any other name" - but that was all.

His remarks were greeted with dismay in Europe, where it is feared an open crisis within the EEC is now inevitable.

This was against recent of "Common Wealth" breakaways. (from memory)

France had its own problems with Algerian independence and aftermaths.

VICTIM - 20 May 2016 10:39 - 71246 of 81564

The EEC was never ever intended to be anything like what it is today , and you say addressed but the people said specifically that nothing could be done about the Strasbourg affair .

Fred1new - 20 May 2016 10:50 - 71247 of 81564

Many hoped that the EU would develop in the way it is gradually doing.

If there is a will, there is a way.

I can't remember the arguments for the movement B-S.

VICTIM - 20 May 2016 10:54 - 71248 of 81564

Cobblers . Many hoped that the EU would develop in the way it is gradually going . Where does that come from .

Haystack - 20 May 2016 11:01 - 71249 of 81564

Certainly France and Germany always intended fo the Common Market to gradually move to a United States of Europe.

jimmy b - 20 May 2016 11:07 - 71250 of 81564

Fred means Germany always hoped it would develop in this way .

VICTIM - 20 May 2016 11:11 - 71251 of 81564

QUITE . many apparently .

Fred1new - 20 May 2016 12:31 - 71252 of 81564

It is its natural development.

Rather than remaining stunted by adolescent emotions.

And again, at least the trains would run on time!
