ahah, can we assume that the SET`s traders are more, shall we say, professional than the punters, seems so by the AT sells bombing through, much more clear now, its enough to give you PMT

lol!!!!!!

definitely offski.

ps thanks driver nice to know I spread a little happiness, hah!

bosley - 11 Jul 2005 12:42 - 7130 of 27111

i understand that at trades are automated trades. what is the significance of automated trades?

Rasenberg - 11 Jul 2005 12:54 - 7131 of 27111

Can anyone explain what this SETs does please and how it will effect me. Totally new to all this and needing to learn

stockdog - 11 Jul 2005 13:12 - 7132 of 27111

It enables traders with Level 2 access to place their orders directly in the market (either buy or sell side) and appear in the screen a bit like a MM (but with no name adjacent). Then other traders can "walk" their prices towards you, or you towards them until - BOOM! - there is an automated trade as one trader's sell price meets another's buy price. Or you can set you price well back from the front as a stop or limit for whent he market moves sudednly and you weren't watching.

You can see how far/near you are from the front of the "queue" of prices and duck inside the MM's prices to secure a quicker transaction at a slightly tighter (worse) price.

All trades basically are automated unless they go via an MM.

Anyway, that's what I understand, but please correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Unless you use a broker who is dealing SET`s (e.g. Killik &Co.) you won`t use the SET`s system, you will merely trade as an `O`,deal e.eg. Natwest Stockbrokers don`t use SET`s, it doesn`t matter if you do trade elecronically,or by `phone , you will merely get the mm`s price- AND there is now no guarantee now that you will get the price the mm shows,it its below NMS- if it isn`t matched in number you ` aint having it.

So for the basic punter the only diff. is you can see the board, and know the numbers- my advice is get a SET`s broker.

bhunt1910 - 11 Jul 2005 14:00 - 7134 of 27111

ok - my shares are held in a nominee account with BSL

The bit I dont understand is :

If I want to sell 100,000 seo shares - and I use sets to place my shares and manage to get a buyer on sets - how do we physically exchange shares and cash ?

How is BSL involved?

firstly they will have to be sold through a SET`s broker,so you won`t necessarily be able to trade SETSMM anyway, but its not YOU who is doing the trading anyway, its not punter led, your broker will deal as the intermediary as usual, your a/c will be credited - as usual, basically for trading purposes for the small guy it doesn`t change a thing-EXCEPT -you can see the MARKET- BUT ONLY PART OF IT.
Most annoying, I thgt. this might be a breakthrough in clarity, not a chance.

In a nut shell its still mm led.

ps don`t be afraid to ring your broker for advice on the new system- they are obliged to tell you of the changes

bosley - 11 Jul 2005 14:30 - 7136 of 27111

Followed what you said earlier, but I assume if you have a direct access account you can trade directly through the book, negating the need for a broker?

Sequestor - 11 Jul 2005 18:05 - 7145 of 27111

pth-not sure about that, but sounds right.

ptholden - 11 Jul 2005 18:33 - 7146 of 27111

Pretty sure that's how the Day Traders operate (CMC spring to mind). Also able to take advantage of auctions and other such like black arts.

PTH HI,

Indeed, anyone can buy Bloomberg Trading platform, or Proquote, and trade electronically, ie SETS "Proquote Trader optionally includes SETS order input capability."

Cheers,
